Saturday's Achievement Day .
was the first of six such days
to be held on consecutive Satur-
days in Huron for the project
"The Club Girl Entertains." The
theme is "Let your home voice
harmony, hospitality, sincerity
and comfort and you will have
served humanity nobly." To de-
velop this theme club members
have been studying how to enter-
tain a guest, how to be a good
guest, table setting and service,
informal and formal teas, party
ideas and etiquette.
Huron Home Economist Miss
Sharon Carroll, who presided for
the day, announced that 690 girls
in Huron County were members
of this spring's club. Miss Carroll
was assisted by Mrs. Ian Mc-
Allister, RR 1 Zurich, and Mrs.
Robert McKercher, Seaforth,
both former home economists.
Mrs. McKercher mentioned that
ten years ago she prophesied
that Huron County might have
250 club girls in ten years time.
Due to energetic home econom-
ists, loyal leaders and the sup-
port of Women's Institutes the
club work has progressed by
leaps and bounds and now in the
ten years there are 690 girls
involved.
In addition to a record book
each club girl kept a hostess
reference file using such titles
as Etiquette, T able Centres,
Party Suggestions, Flower Ar-
rangements, Decorations, Party
Menus and Games. Both the
record book and the hostess file
of each club member were on
display for the afternoon's pro-
gram.
Jamie Kneale commented on
Grand Bend's exhibit, TableCen-
tres for all Occasions, and said
'that table centres should not
obstruct, should give a pleasing
effect which could be given with
little expense—in short centres
should show variety, character
and originality.
Speaking on the Elinwille I
exhibit Table set for Two, Anne
Herdinan said a rectangular
lent, itself more easily for table
setting and while plastic is .24-
cepta.ble for entertaining white
damask is always attractive or
place mats are permitted. can-
dles, if used, should always be
lit, and if chilled for a half hour
before, they willburn more slow-
ly with less dripping.
I Sandwiches for Afternoon Tea
should be small, dainty, decor-
ative and 'served without crust"
said Elva Finkbeiner in com-
menting on the exhibit of Crediton
11 club Sandwiches for Afternoon.
Tea She gave further hints in
malting and arranging sandwiches
for an informal tea.
In commenting on the exhibits
Mrs. McAllister said "It amazes
me how much work is accom-
plished in eight short lessons."
The skits and demonstrations
were spiced with humor and
showed Much originality. BUM-
