The driver Auxiliary hold surprise event Last Tuesday evening the Legion Auxiliary members held their April meeting in the Legion Hall, with president Mrs. A. E. Reilly in the chair. Mrs. Bert Thompson won the mystery prize. One new member, Mrs. Harold Snelgrove of George St., was enrolled. The highlight of the meeting was a surprise birthday party for the president who was pres- ented with a pot of mums by Mrs. Ralph Rummell. Mrs. Jim Murphy provided and helped serve the birthday cake, to go with the ice-cream. Local Lion in election Last Monday evening the Lucan Lions Club held its regular dinner meeting in the Anglican Church basement. There were 2? Lions in attendance, eight more than planned for. Five of the unexpected guests were London East Lions, one of whom, Lion Herman Rahr, is running for District Governor, and so came to Lucan to do a little campaigning. Another guest was Lion Bob Taylor's -father from Clinton. During the business session plans were made for the annual Red Cross Blitz, which this year will be held May 6. The annual House League Hockey Tourna- ment was held at the Lucan Arena April 10. The annual par- ent-child Hockey Banquet will be held in the Anglican Church basement April 15 when theguest speaker will be Johnny Bower of the Toronto Maple Leaf Hockey team. Lion Clare Stanley will be one of the contestants running for Deputy District Governor, Thursday, April 18, at Thorn- dale. President Ian Dallas presided and instead of one door prize, four were given. Two went to Lucan Lions, Gerry Van Bussel and Gary McFalls and the other two went to London Lions Herman Rahr and Stan Millson. ANGLICAN The Anglican Church Women held their April meeting at the home of Mrs. Harold Hodgins, last Wednesday afternoon, with 14 members and Rev; E. 0, Lan- caster present. In the absence of the President, Mrs. Jack Murdy, the vice president, Mrs. Harvey Hodgins presided, and led in the worship service. The annual special thankoffer- trig was presented and delegates chosen for the annual meeting to be held at St. Paul's Church, London, April 23 and 24. It was announced the Spring Deanery would be held in Byron, May 21. Mrs. Gordon Atkinson offered her home for the, May meeting. Mrs. Harold Hodgins took over, and presented a splendid paper on the theme "Bear ye one another's burdens". Mrs. Earl Atkinson and Mrs. Gordon Atkinson were assistant hostesses. SUNDAY SERVICE Flowers in the church were in memory of the two accident Vic- tims Donald Crouch and Dorothy Randall. The Jr. Choir awards ter March were presented to Frances Elton and Jeff Culbert. Two servers Bill Haskett and Mike Culbert presented pal ni crosses to the congregation as they left the church. The postponed social evening, sponsored by Mrs. Kay Egan's group of the Ladies Guild will be held Tuesday evening, April 16 in the church basement. Seh001, for the young man was a Medway gradu - ate and was graduating from the Guelph Agricultpral School this year, while the girl was graduat- ing from Medway this year and had planned to attend the Lon- don Teachers' College in the Fall. Mr. Crouch is survived by his mother, Mrs. Ethel (13 o well) Crouch, Granton, two brothers, George Crouch of Williamsburg, Virginnia and William Powell of Granton, also three sisters Mild- red (Mrs. Mark Gorth) of Sarnia, Elizabeth (Mrs. Peter Finch) of London, Mary Rose (Mrs. Wil- liam Elders) of Chatham. Miss Randall is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lon- son Randall of London Town- ship, one sister Margaret (Mrs. Richard Dean) of London and her grandfather, Russell Small, also of London. Pallbearers for the former were Jack Noon, Jim Harding, Don Harding, Bev. Shipley, Don- ald Wallis, Joe Peko Jr. and flower bearers were Donald Ja- mison, Barry Brock, Gordon Leslie, John McH al e, Joan Churchill, Barbara Taylor and Carole Loft. Pallbearers for the latter were Tom Dean, Bill Edesom, Ron Loft, Gary Davidson and Wayne Colbert and flower bearers were Beverly Ward, Barbara Stewart, Susan Osmond, Ruth Frank, Mar- ion Fralight, Maxine Kargess and Doreen Sleight. Honorary pallbearers f r om Medway HS included, Principal D. M. Hoople, Mr. W, J. Mathers, David Elson, Nancy Park, Mari- lyn Hearn, Vera Craig, Margaret Anngoudy and Glen Worrell. Touching as was the funeral service, even more touching was the scene at St. James Cemetery, Clandeboye. An extra grave had been purchased beside the Crouch family plot for Miss Randall, so the young couple could at least be together in death. To climax the sadness, Mrs. Crouch re- quested that her husband's body, which had rested in the mauso- leum, since January 13 be also interred last Wednesday. So into the three adjoining graves, the three bodies were placed. Thorndale club captures contest Although the Lucan Jr. Farm- ers had no entry in the Jr. Farmers' 1968 Drama Festival, they do rejoice that their friends in the Thorndale Branch brought honor to Middlesex, when two weeks ago they won the County award and last Wednesday night at the Medway High School, went on to win the zone award. At Medway they competed a- gainst winners from Lambton and Huron counties. Their play "The Long Christmas Dinner" by Thornton Wilder, won them the award, and two of their members won the best actor and best act- ress awards. Now they go on to the finals in Guelph, April 20. Dennis Maguire and David Carp- enter. Plans were finalized for the Easter sunrise service at the church at 7;30 am next Sunday. Of the $80 netted from the car wash and bake sale it Was decided to send $40 to Bunny Bundle. The balance will go to the groUp's orphan and for church needs. Refreshments were provided by Jim Hearn, Donna Walker, Bonnie Brooks, Linda Smith and Allan mcphee. PENTECOSTAL At the Palm Sunday service Holy Communion was served. CHATHOLIC The CWL met in the school gym April 3. A report of the year's activities and finances was given. The present execu- tive will preside for the coming year. In the first gaMe of the day it was Lambeth vs Lucan, This Was a real thriller in a two game total goal teries. Liman ha.d taken a 5-1 lead in the first gaMe, but Saturday Lambeth decided to play hockey and by the 15 minute mark of the third 'period they had tied the series at 6 all. De Vos of Lon- don was present. His report on the Morkin-Clyman drain and the Maguire drain, was read, discussed and provisionally ad- opted. Tentative approval for the con- struction of an addition to the Lucan Public School was receiv- ed from the Ontario Municipal Board. The addition will include a gymtorium, a nurse's room and an enlarging of the kinder- garten. The contract for the construc- tion of the Morkin-Ryan drain was awarded to Simpson and White Ltd. of Grand Valley and for the Clyman drain to Nesbitt Morkin, RR 3 Lucan. District students win music tests Lucan students attending Mount St. Joseph and Medway Schools won many honours for their schools, their parents and them- selves at the London Kiwanis Festival last week. At the former school Marlene Butler, who competed in but one number came third with a mark of 83. Maureen Smith competed on each of four days, winning one first (85) two seconds (83 and 84) and one third (83). As for Medway School, it enter- ed 20 numbers, winning 12 firsts, four seconds, one third and three fourths. Medway's "S ix t een" sang twice winning the high marks of 87 and 89. Medway's three bands all com- peted. The Stage Band came sec- ond with a mark of 80, the Junior Band came fourth with a mark of 81 and the Senior Band came sec- ond with the splendid mark of 86. Lucan members attend convention The TOPS Province Cognition Day Convention was held at the Royal York Hotel, Toronto last Friday and Saturday, April 5 and 6 with TOPS members numbering over 2500 from all over Ontario present. Friday was given over to the presentation of crowns to the queen of each club and to a dis- cussion of club problems. On Sat- urday, queens were officially crowned and a graduation from TOPS to KOPS (keep off pounds sensibly. Thursday evening the Lucan Streamliners held a short meet- ing and aweigh in", which prov- ed satisfactory. At 6:30 am Friday, seven of the eight members left in two cars for the convention in Toronto. Mrs. Harry Bond, who lost 25 3/4 pounds during the past year, re- ceived the Lucan crown but as the Lucan members only attended the first day, she had to miss out on the official crowning. Cubs invest three more Last Monday evening Cub- master Gordon, Froats had 34 cubs and two leaders, Ken Jones and Tom Barr out for the cub meeting. With the exception of two games, "Men in the boat" and "Chicken Fight", the cubmaster had a busy night investing three boys and giving awards to a great number of cubs. Assistant Tom Barr had his three small sons, Doug, Bob and Bill all invested. Six cubs received their team players badge for their hockey playing: Jimmie Hodgins, Brad Taylor, Jimmie Thompson, Dier- ick Dykeman, Randy Kraul and David Smith. Tim Stutt received two badges —the artist badge for his clever cartoons and collector's badge for his stamp collection. The Cubmaster presented his son, Brent, with the reader's badge for having read three books and told the story of one. Jimmie Hodgins received the pet keeper's badge for his dog.
