As a result of tax increases included in the provincial bud- get brought down Tuesday by Provincial Treasurer Charles MacNaughton, the average con- sumer was hit hard in two places. The costs of owning and oper- ating an automobile and safe- guarding one's family by way of hospital and medical insurance will rise sharply in 1968. The provincial tax on gasoline went up two cents a gallon and beginning December 1 automobile licence fees will also go up.
