Woman is dealt
nine lone hands
The date set for January 12
for the Anglican Guild Euchre
was the weekend of the big sleet
storm so a new date of Jan. 30
had to be set. Last Tuesday was
a beautiful night overhead, but
roads and sidewalks were a sheet
of ice. However a sufficient num-
ber of players braved the hazard-
ous walking and driving to fill
12 tables.
The president, Mrs. Charles
Haggar requested Miss Line. Ab-
bott to welcome the guests, read
the rules, choose the winners and
make the announcement of the
next euchre. Mrs. Rose Atkinson
presented the prizes. Mrs. Wil-
liam Mathers was the most lucky
winner. Her nine lone hands
brought her score to an all-
time high of 120 so she received
the ladles high score prize and
Mr. Harvey Hodgins won the
men's high score prize.
As no one can accept two
prizes, the Ladies' lone hand
prize went to the runner-up,
Miss Lina Abbott, with five lone
hands and Ed Knoblauch won
the Men's prize. Low score
prizes went to Mrs. Evan Hod-
gins and Mr. Mert Culbert.
There was also a lucky chair
prize. The looking for it would
have made an interesting movie
scene as everyone stood, tipped
his or her chair hoping it con-
tained the number '110". Mr.
Joe Carter was the lticky win-
ner.
The next euchre will be held
Tuesday, February 13.

help fellowship
In an effort to create an hour
of fellowship and an opportunity
to meet new members, Lucan
UCW last Wednesday staged a
"Coffee Break" from 10:30 to
11:30 and a «membership Tea"
from 7:30 to 9 pm.
The former was a "Come as
you are" event. The UCW presi-
dent, Mrs. Wm Froats, Mrs.
Murray Hodgins, membership
convener, and Mrs. G. W. Sach
were at the door to welcome the
guests.
Mrs. Ian Dallas and Mrs. Cecil
Robb introduced all the new-
comers to each other and to the
UCW members who were present.
Mrs. Alex Young and Mrs.
Lionel Kloss received fees, and
gave out membership cards,
while Mrs. A. E. Reilly and Mrs.
H. B. Langford had charge of
the kitchen. In the evening, Mrs.

Fun night staged
by Streamliners
It was Fun Night, Thursday
when the Lucan Streamliners held
their TOPS meeting inMrs. Gary
McKenzie's recreation room.
Mrs. Alfred Williams and Mrs.
Charles McRoberts were in
charge of the fun program, which
consisted of charades, memory
contests and a paper doll con-
test. The doll contest proved
most amusing. Each contestant
held a large piece of paper be-
hind her back and tore it into
the shape she would like to be.
During the business session
the weigh-in was satisfactory,
with only one member having to
take home a little pink pig. Mrs.
Harry Bond's was the greatest,
so she was queen for the week.
It was Mrs. Roland Carty's turn
to take charge of the exercise
program, A low calorie lunch
was served.

for essays
Last Wednesday evening 2'7 of
the 31 Cubs were out for their
third meeting. Cubmaster Gordon
Froats had his new helper, Ken
Jones, with him to take charge
of the attendance and progress
chart. As Ken had three years
in Cubs and three in. Scouts while
living in Lucknow Mr. Froats
feels he will prove of great
assistance to him. However, he
is still hoping for some lady
helpers.
As last year's records are
still not available Mr. Froats
is having difficulty getting prop-
erly organized.
The Cubs were all asked to
participate in an Essay Contest
on "What it means to be a good
Cub" and were given two weeks
to prepare their essay. Games
were enjoyed.

No place
like home
Last November when . Mr.
Edgar McFalls, Lucan's mail
courier for 36 years, retired,
he sold his home on William and
Frank St. to Mr. Wm Mathers
and moved to London to make
his home with his nephew, Mr.
Charlie Weir and family, but
like many another person he
found it is very hard to make
new friends in a big city and
he wanted to come back home.
Mr. and Mrs. Mathers, who
had lost their home and all their
belongings in a fire were in a
position to sympathize with Mr.
McFalls, so offered him a home
with them. Now he is back in
his old home among familiar
scenes and old friends and is
happy. Once more he can walk
up to the post office and chat
with the employees, with whom
he had worked for so long.
ANGLICAN
Flowers on the altar were in
memory of Mrs. Irene Coursey
who passed away in Febraury
1961. They were presented by
her two daughters and families.
Two new servers, Gordon Wor-
rell and Weldon Hodgins, as well
as Bill Haskett assisted at the
11 o'clock service.
