taken Saturday to St. Joseph's
Hospital.
Mrs. Arnold Blake underwent
an operation last Wednesday at
St. Joseph's Hospital.
Mr. Roy McCann is still a
patient in St. Joseph's Hospital,
London.
Mrs. Sam Taylor is a patient
in Victoria Hospital since Thurs-
day.
UCW MEET IN LUCAN
Clandeboye UCW met Thursday
afternoon at the home of Mrs.
William Wilson, Lucan, with Mrs.
Jim Donaldson presiding.
Mrs. Charles Coughlin led in
the devotional. There were two
new members Mrs. R. B. Worth-
ington and Mrs. Mervin Williams.
Plans .were made for a ham
supper March 27. Mrs. Peter
Voison assisted the hostess.

The annual UCW family night
was held last Friday evening
with a good attendance. Program
under the leadership of Mrs.
Laverne McCarter and Mrs. Cliff
Jaques was enjoyed. Program
numbers were: vocal solo by
Sheila Hern; piano instrumental,
Linda Hern; reading, Barbara
Hern, mouth organ and piano
duet by Gordon Johnson and
Harry Hern, a skit by the choir
members, "The Lamp Went Out"
and one by seven UCW members
"Interviewing Servant Girls."
Slides were shown by Wm.
Morley on their trip to California,
the Rose Bowl parade and game
and also some local pictures.

Mrs. Russell Worden was host-
ess for the Agriculture and Ca-
nadian Industries meeting of the
Staffa Women's Institute at her
home on Wednesday, Jan. 31 at
2 pm. Mrs. Ed. Chappel, presid-
ed.
A letter was read from Mrs.
Small, the FWIO president. Fees
were approved sent to Guelph
for the Officer's Conference in
May. The Institute have been
asked to cater to a dinner in
March at the township hall.
Seventeen members answer-,
ed the roll call "From an agri-
cultural or other Industrial stand-
point what did you learn from
visiting or reading about Expo?"
Mrs. Ross McPhail presided
for the program and presented
an interesting paper on the motto
"To be successful, a farmer
must be Jack of all Trades and
master of them all." Mrs. Rob-
ert McCaughey played several
piano solos. Mrs. Cameron Viv-
ian gave a reading.
Mrs. Cecil Bowman gave an
interesting paper on agriculture,
telling of the new grain which
was developed by the University
at Winnipeg and which was shown
at Expo last year. Mrs. Carter
Kerslake amused everyone with
her "off beat" report on Expo
and several members displayed
souvenirs which they had brought
home. A committee was named
to purchase material for quilts
for War Memorial Hospital to
be quilted at the March work
meeting.

the discussion was whether or
not Mayor Delbridge should be
given a vote and if he was,
whether or not it would consti-
tute a majority due to the fact
it would have brought the number
of votes on any motion to only
four when in fact there were
eight members present, with
Cudmore abstaining, Councillor-
Don
MacGregor was absent.
The Ontario Municipal Act
states that the head of the coun-
cil, or the presiding officer,
may vote with the other members
on all questions.
It also states that only on
questions on which there is an
equality of votes shall the ques-
tion be deemed to be negatived.
This would suggest. that MayOr
