Many who read, and enjoyed,
Mrs. Jennie Raycraft Lewis'
book, r iSure an' This is Biddulph",
have been enquiring when h e r
book, "The Luck of Lucan" would
be available.
Well, Mrs. Lewis has just
phoned me to say copies can
now be secured at the Municipal
Office from Mrs. Gibson.
As this book portrays the hist-
ory of Lucan it will, not only
be of interest to Lucan residents,
but to all former Lucanites,

BY HOMER PIGEON
If we had been in Yorkville
on Saturday night we could have
called it a happening. As it was
it happened in Lunn at the Shil-
lelagh Motel, and we of the Lucan
Homing Club called It a banquet
and dance.
There were people there from
Detroit and Toronto. There were
quite a few from London but the
mast people were right from
Lucan. We had just flamed on
and district news
great big thank you to the man-
agement and girls at the Shil-
lelagh motel for a wonderful
dinner.
And most of all thank you all
for coming out to support us
in this venture and special thanks
to the donors of all the trophies,
Our success depended entirely
upon your patronage. If there is
any one I have neglected to thank
please remind the president at
our next meeting. (THANK YOU)

a small gathering at the start,
but more people got the idea
about wanting to go as the time
for the event got closer. On Fri-
day morning we had people wait-
ing for any tickets that might
be turned back in. If there are
some people we did not ask we
are very sorry we missed you.
For the ones who asked and we
could not accommodate we are
also sorry, we just hope you can
get your tickets early for next
year. It was sort of like old home
week for Ken Culbert from Tor-
onto and Neil Leckie from Kit-
chener. They both saw people
they have not seen in years.
The evening got under way with
Chuck Barrett from St. Marys
asking the grace, which was
followed by a minute of silence
for all those who we should
remember a little more on NOV.
the 11th. At 745 p.m. 216 people
sat down to a turkey dinner
After the dinner Tom Hardy
was in charge of a film that
gave the visitors some idea of
how a pigeon race takes place,
When the film was over some of
the dignitaries were introduced.
They were as follows: President
of the Lucan Club — Norm Hardy
and Lis wife Lena; president of
the Mitchell Club — Wally Mc-
Fadden and his wife Wilma; Pres-
ident of the Southwestern Ont.
Federation of Pigeon Racing —
Clarence Hardy and his wife
Beulah; President of the Can-
adian Racing Pigeon Union (this
is the governing body for all
the race clubs in Canada) Gerry
Trimble and his son from Guelph;
Mr. Chuck Barrett and his wife
Mary from St. Marys and Mert
and Muriel Culbert from Lucan.
Mr. Trimble said a few words
on behalf of the Canadian Union,
After presentation of the tro-
phies every one danced to the
music that was well supplied by
Clare Stanley. There were two
spot dances which were won by
Mr. and Mrs. Mac Cooper from
London and the other one by Mr.
and Mrs. .Jack Atkinson of Lucan.
There was a draw for a center
piece of flowers that was won by
Mr. Hugo Vandaele of RR No. 1
Ailsa Craig. The draw for a
Christmas cake was won by Donna
Thompson of Francis St. Lucan.
We should not forget to thank
C. Haskett and Son for having the
trophies in the front window of
the store for a month. We should
also thank Lena and Nancy Hardy
who were in charge of the dec-
orating; Betty Hodgins your
friendly Avon representative who
supplied us with the favours;
Clare Stanley for the music;
George English and Murrayliod-
gson for a job well done, and a

The Worship Service on the
Theme "Fear Not" was lead by
Jane Hodgson and Grace Smith.
Further Bible study discussion
was carried on within the three
groups, and will be concluded
at the next meeting.
The parents and friends joined
in the closing ceremony. Lots of trophies
A good share of the annual trophies presented to members of the
Lucan Homing Pigeon club for the year 1967 went to an ardent pigeon
fancier, Clarence Hardy who also is president of the Southwestern
Ontario Federation of Racing Pigeons. Above, Clarence is shown

and Debbie Gricken, 527 pupils
and staff of the Biddulph--Lucan
Public School met at the Lucan
school and paraded to the ceno-
taph, at the Legion Hall, for
their Remembrance DayService.
It was a perfect indianSummer
day, very similar to Nov. 11,
1918, when a whole world went
wild with joy, that World War I
was over. To many a Lucan resid-
ent there was a feeling of sadness,
as they watched the children
march by, and no doubt there was
many a silent prayer, that none
of these 527 children would ever
be called upon to make the sup-
reme sacrifice, for home and
country,
Mr. Norman Steeper was in
charge of the splendid program,
which included a prayer of dedi-
cation by Rev. Gordon Merkley,
of Granton, the story of Fland-
er's Poppy, by Rev. G. W. Sach
of Lucan and the benediction by
Rev. Gordon McDonald, also of
Lucan,
Two members of the Lucan
branch of the Royal Canadian
Legion were also guests. Mr.
A. E. Reilly, was in charge of the
Last Post ceremony and Mr. J.
W. Smith distributed poppies to
all present. The children taking
part on the program were, David
Brigham and Sharon Mardlin, who
read Biblical selections, Mrs.
Beatson's Grade '7 class, who
gave a choral reading, "Com-
mander Jolly, Ignores Death";
Mrs. Halliday's Grade 3, who re-
cited Flander's Fields" and
Jeff Park who placed the school's
wreath on the cenotaph.
The school girls' choir sang the
Twenty-third Psalm and all join-
ed in the "Remembrance Hymn"
and Valiant Hearts" and also
in the two minutes of silence.
A pair of winners
The 1967 season of the Lucan Homing Pigeon club came to a suc-
cessful close Saturday with the annual banquet and presentations.
Above, Dwight Henderson and his son Bill are shown with the trophies
they captured over the year and also two of the birds that were
responsible for the awards. T-A photo.
Probably never before in the
history of Lucan, did over 500
children march down its Main
St., but Friday morning, headed

cuts knee
It it isn't one thing it is another
at the home of Mr. and mrs.
Eldon Hopps of Lucan and their
family of six. Recently the flu
went the rounds of the household.
Then nine-year Kathie developed
a sore shoulder and was out of
school.
Lastly five-year-old Lorna,
while recuperating from a recent
tonsil operation, climbed up into
a window Saturday, and put her
knee through the glass, inflict-
ing a gash, which required six
stitches. Had she not been wear-
ing slacks at the time the gash
would have even been more seri-
ous.
No wonder Mrs. Hopps is say-
ing to herself, "What next!"

PARENTS' NIGHT
It was Parents' Night at the
Biddulph Central School last
Monday evening when parents
could receive their children's
first report and discuss diffi-
culties with the teachers. The
staff members were verypleased
that 70% of the parents took
advantage of this opportunity. No
doubt the percentage would have
been larger had it riot been Par-
ents' Night, also at the Medway
High School and many parents
had children in both schools and
had to make a choice.
Parents who attended Biddulph
Central had the opportunity of
viewing the ultra modern three-
room addition, which opened that
day.
