The Exeter Times-Advocate, 1967-07-27, Page 16A difference of 88 years
There was an age spread of some 88 years between the youngest and oldest persons attending the McGil-
livray Township centennial day activities, Saturday, Former Reeve Dave Sheppard, 88, was the oldest
man and the eldest lady was Mrs. Amanda Reid. The latter is shown holding Bonnie Jean Lewis, the
youngest person present. The infant was born on May 25 this year and is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Norman Lewis, RR 2 Ailsa Craig. - T-A photo

Mr. Alexander said that con-
siderable more work was re-
quired where defence establish-
ments and cottages are located,
as all tenants in P.M.Q. hous-
ing, and wives of all cottage
owners, who are Canadian citi-
zens, are required to be entered
on the assessment rolls.
He pointed out that at least
24 countries of the 38 in Ontario
are now in the Assessment Corn-
missioner System, as well as
five districts in Northern On-
tario. It appeared to him that
all countries will be required
to accept this system within a
few years.
The report indicated that ten
of the 26 municipalities in the
county showed increases in pop-
ulation during the past year, while
everyone of the 26 had an in-
crease in total assessment.
Six of the 16 townships were
up in population: Goderich, How-
ick, Stephen, Turnberry, Usborne
and East Wawanosh; two of the
five towns: Clinton and Goderich;
and two of the five villages: Hen-
sail and Zurich (one).
Comparative population and assessment figures, as revealed by
the 1966 and 196'7 reports of the County Assessor, are as follows:

Another week has gone by and
my Bantam midget ball team have
yet to win a game. Although they
are getting better every game
cut, last Friday June 21 they lost
to Melbourne 5-2 but it was a
good ball game. The pee wees
dropped another one Saturday
night to Kintore.
Our second swim session ends
this Friday, July 28. We also
register for the third session this
date at 1 o'clock in the arena.
Anyone wishing information on
this can call me here at the
Centre 227-4221 or at home 227-
4805. I have been getting reports
of thefts in our change rooms at
the pool. We have a check room
in the pool and for 5Q you can
leave your valuables with the
check girl. If you only have a bit
of change leave it at the canteen
with my wife, or the check girl
will look after it for you at no
charge.
We are having a water demon-
stration at the pool August 13,
that's a Sunday at 4:15 pm, no
admission charge and all the
talent will be local pupils of the
pool. As this is a centennial
project of the Lucan Community
Arena Board and Recreation
committee any one interested in
taking part, get your name in at
the pool check room. This con-
sists of water safety, diving,
swimming strokes, water sur-

Raising horses
can't be stopped
People who keep horses in Ex-
eter have every right to do so,
council learned last Monday.
Councillor Ted Wright asked
members if there was any bylaw
prohibiting the keeping of horses
in town, adding that some had be-
come a nuisance as they were
allowed to wander around on other
persons' property.
Reeve Derry Boyle suggested
the Ontario statutes should be
checked by the town's solicitor
to see if it was possible to forbid
the keeping of horses.
Councillor Joe Wooden said
there was some mention of horses
and it was his understanding
any person could keep a horse or
donkey.
He later attained a copy of the
statutes and read the section to
council noting they could forbid
the housing of all other animals
"save and except horses and
donkeys".
However, council can regulate
the manner in which they are kept,
although they took no steps to do
so.
