Carmel RC Church in a quiet ceremony performed by Rev. A. P. Jansen, Friday, December 30 at 10 am. The bride wore a Swedish knit mint green suit with matching hat, black accessories and orchid corsage. Mrs. Harry Carroll, pres- ident was in charge. Mrs. Bill Johnson read a prayer for the prayer partners and mission- aries. Rev. S. Bell read the Scripture and spoke briefly. Reports were read by Mrs. Bill Johnson, treasurer, and mrs. Hugh Davis, secretary. A mystery prize donated by Mrs. Heber Davis was won by Mrs. H. Carroll. The afternoon was spent in cutting quilt blocks. PERSONALS Thursday afternoon the ladies met at the home of Mrs. Earl Greenlee and quilted. Mrs. G reenlee provided refreshments. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Carroll are visiting with the former's brother, Mr. and Mrs. George Carroll, Detroit. Mrs. H. Carroll is observing a birthday. Miss Sharon Davis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Davis, is a student at Bruno's School of Hair Design. She started the course Wednesday. Mrs. Levi White, secretary- treasurer, acted as secretary for Mrs. Joe Morgan in her absence. A poem was given by Mrs. Art L ightfoot. The Guild members decided to hold their annual pancake supper Tuesday evening, Feb. 7 PERSONALS Mr. and Mrs. Milton Tweddle visited Wednesday evening with Mrs. Violet Allison. Mr. Milton Keller of Exeter is erecting a new home for Mr. and Mrs. Joe Amos. Mr. Ross Amos of Hamilton spent the weekend with his par- ents, Mr. and Mrs. Grant Amos and family. While coming home from work at Parkhill, Mrs. Gerald Wright escaped serious injury Friday when her car skidded on slippery road north of Parkhill and was ditched. EUCHRE WINNERS A euchre party sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Earl Lewis and Mr. and Mrs. Fraser Dixon was held Friday evening, January 6 at Brinsley Community Centre. Prize for high ladies went to Mrs. Bill Morley and men's high to Mr. Joe Carter; ladies low, Mrs. Wilbert Lewis and men's low, George Hodgson; lone hand, for ladies, Mrs. Edwin Morley and for men Ron Steeper. PLAN WORLD DAY OF PRAYER January UCW meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Cecil Hartle. Convenor of Group 3, Mrs. Hartle presided. Scripture was read by Kathleen Morley. Mrs. George Lee gave the study book chapter "Protestants in the Maritimes". Readings were given by Mrs. Arnold Was- nidge, Mrs. Marjorie Steeper and Kathleen Morley. Vice-president Mrs. George Lee took over for the business part. Mrs. Earl Lewis and Mrs. Wm. Fenton are to assist in preparing for the World Day of Prayer February 10 at Brinsley Church. It was decided to have Stage euchre at Blanshard By MRS. G. HOOPER BLANSHARD The monthly social was held Friday evening at Metropolitan School with Mr. and Mrs. Mal- colm Spence and Mr. and Mrs. Grant McCorquodale in charge. Following the meal the mem- bers went to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Morlock for the annual election of officers and a game of crokinole. Crediton's two churches united for week-of-prayer services, Wednesday evening in the EUB Church, the Rev. Douglas War- ren spoke on the glory of the Christian's inheritance. Thurs- day evening in the United Church the Rev. Howard Zurbrigg's mes- sage was how to maintain a vital church. PERSONALS Mrs. Lloyd Hey returned home Sunday from South Huron Hos- pital. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Fyden- chuck, formerly of Dryden, On- tario, have moved into Mr. Rad- ford's new home on Main Street. They have four children, three of whom are attending Stephen Central School. Their eldest child remained in Dryden to finish her school term there. Mr. Fyden- chuck is on the staff of Huron South District High School. Two Canadian flags are flying in the village. The Township Council erected one pole in the township yard, the other in front of the Community Hall. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Finkbeiner moved from the farm on the Eighth Concession to their Wil- liam Street home in Exeter. Roll call "name a change in your town in the last year" was both informative and amusing. Mrs. Harold Kellerman discuss- ed the motto, "All history was once a current event". Mrs. Charles Snell gave curr ent events. Mrs. Irvin Rader had the Tweedsmuir History book on display and spoke on Its value and how members could contri- bute. Mrs. Rudolph Miller led in a singsong of old-time selec- tions, Several of the 4-H girls were present and had their books on display. Miss Dora Goodale ex- plained the skit they had given at Achievement Day for her group. Miss Beth Snell explain- ed their demonstration. President Mrs. Glen Webb pre- sented gifts to Beth Snell for county honors. Diane Weber will receive a tray for provincial honors. The leaders, Mrs. Eben Weigand and Mrs. Gordon Bender and assistants, Norma Weigand and Diane Weber were present- ed gifts. The new training school will be held in Hensall, February 2 and 3 and will be a Centennial project. The WI will sponsor a euchre in the Community Centre, Jan- uary 24 at 8 o'clock. Mrs. Syd Baker reported on the fall execu- tive meeting. Plans for Centen- nial projects were discussed. AID CHOIR The WSWS of the Evangelical UB church met Friday, January 6 with the membership and at- tendance group in charge and Mrs. Charles Snell convener. Mrs. Letta Taylor, vice-pre- sident presided for the business. All secretaries and treasurers gave their reports. F our t e en shut-in boxes were packed at Christmas. Group 2 is in charge of the annual church meeting sup- per January 23. The parsonage committee will meet in February. Mrs. Lloyd Guenther and Mrs. Ralph Weber are the Sunshine committee for January. A gener- ous donation was given to the choir to help pay for the new gowns. A workday is planned to make bandages and hospital gowns for the lepers, arranged by the Christian Social Relations com- mittee. PERSONALS Mr. & Mrs. Gerald Keyes, Deb- bie and Lisa of Oromocto, New Brunswick visited recently with Mr. & Mrs. Bill Becker and fam- ily. at Douglas Point. Mr. and Mrs. Don Hendrick and family of Owen Sound spent Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hendrick. Mr. Royal Heist has returned to Chicago after spending some time with relatives in this area. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Guenther, Dashwood, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Emmery Fahrner, Mr. Everett Fahrner and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Finkbeiner. HAD SPECIAL HOLIDAY Mr. Everett Fahrner enjoyed a two-week holiday with S/L and Mrs. John Ayres, Ottawa. His visit, however, had an inauspic- ious beginning. The first morn- ing the family awoke in a cold house. They had been robbed during the night, and the thief had left the back door open. Mr. Fahrner viewed Canada's centennial flame on Parliament Hill, and also visited Montreal. Mr. Carl Radford has a private centennial project. Monday, Jan- uary 2, he planted a tree in his yard. He plans to set out more trees in the spring. Crediton WI meeting is being postponed from January 18 to January 25. Staffa ladies learn finish By MRS. J. TEMPLEMAN STAFFA Mrs. Carter Kerslake is con- ducting a training school on "More About Finishes". The first meeting was held at Mrs. Kerslake's home last Wednesday evening with eight present. Mrs. K e r slake demonstrated the proper way to take one's meas- urements; also how to cut out a pattern properly, how to stay stitch and the proper way to insert a zipper. PERSONALS Mrs. Jim Lyall and children, Agincourt, are visiting for a few days with Mrs. Lyall's mother, Mrs. Sam Norris and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Norris and family. Mr. and Mrs. Reg Pinlayson and Mike are enjoying a holiday in Florida. Misses Margaret Worden and Carol Dow Visited Over the week- end in London with Miss Kaye Worden.
