Bobbie Clark e, 13-year-old son of Mrs. William Walters of Exeter, is spending a week with Mr. & Mrs. Ernest Ross. Guests with Mrs. Charles Hag- gar last week, included Mr. & Mrs. Hiram Thompson of Tor- onto, Mr. & Mrs. Bob Watson and family of Winnipeg and Mr. & Mrs. Erie Helmer of Winchest- er. Mr. Cecil Armitage was brought home from et. Joseph's Hospital Tuesday. Mr. & Mrs. E. M, Fitzgerald of London were Wednesday even- ing guests of Mrs. Jane Somer- ville. Miss Angela Armitt, of London, Who underwent surgery at St. Jo- seph's Hospital, recuperated for a week with her sister, Mrs. Clarence Haskett and family of Main St., North, and is now able to return to work. Mr. & Mrs. Clare Stanley and Mrs. H, S. Stanley were Wednes- day guests of Mr. & Mrs. Al Bromwich of Willowdale. They brought home Lynn Stanley and Billy Lewis and also Elizabeth and Susan Bromwich for a return visit with their Lucan cousins. Dr. & Mrs. C. Bruce Cantelon of West Lorne spent a few days last week with Mr. & Mrs. J. H. Cantelon, Kathy Hodgson, 15-year-old daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Arthur The bride's parents were her only attendants. Mrs. Shipway wore a pink flowered street length jersey dress with corsage of light pink carnations. Following the ceremony the bridal party dined at the Friars Cellar Restaurant, London. For a honeymoon trip to North- ern Ontario the bride changed to a navy suit with wedding corsage. The young couple will make their home at RR 3 Lucan, near Elginfield. Mrs. Irving Gibson and Mrs. Wes Atkinson of Lucan, Mrs. Reba Clarke of Exeter and Mrs. Hazel Coward of Winchelsea have returned front a week at Habana Court, Torrence, Ont, where each day was spent in scenic trips. Mr. & Mrs. John Knight and daughter of Kintore were Sunday guests of Mrs. Frank Hardy. A memorial family gathering was held at Mr. & Mrs. Jim Mugford's borne Sunday. M. & Mrs. Jim Burt and family are holidaying at Pictore Several injured in area mishap Early last Tuesday a London car missed a highway curve on Highway 7 near Prospect Hill and landed in a ditch. James loch, 17, of Stanley St., London who suffered a broken ankle was tak- en by ambulance to St. Joseph's Hospital London. James Gormley, 23, of John- ston St. received a broken nose, Frances Gormley, 17, also of Stanley St., head cuts, Dennis Ducherme of Springbank Drive, back injuries and C at her in e Purdy, 17, of Elgin St. multiple bruises. They were all taken by a passing motorist to St. Marys Hospital, Provincial police from Lucan investigated. Local veterans help at carnival Legion members from London, Southampton, Newbury, Glencoe, Sarnia, Chatham, Tilbury and Lucan last Saturday held their 4th carnival on the Westminster Hospital grounds providing sports and prizes for the patients. The Lucan branch was repre- sented by comrades, Les Ken- nedy, Pat Crudge and J. W. Smith. The Lucan Legion is staging their annual corn roast at the Legion Hall, Saturday, August 27 at 8:30 pm for all their members and their friends. Present awards at horse outing The last summer show of the London Horsemanship Club, was held at the Frank Bristow Stables at Hyde Park, Sunday. Local members and friends attending, included Preside nt Ron Crozier, Mrs. Crozier and girls, Mr. and Mrs. Murray Hod- gson and family, Mrs. George Patrick, Mrs. Mary Squire and daughter, Mary Jane Culbert. Mr. and Mrs. Crozier donated a trophy to the winner of the Western Reining Class and Mrs. Crozier made the presentation to the area winner, Nelson Bilyea of Granton. Since then, she has been hon- ored with three miscellaneous showers. Mrs. Eleanor Copelandof Lon- don entertained a number of the bride's relatives at her home. Mrs. Ferguson was assisted by her husband in the opening of gifts, The second shower was staged by Mrs. Ken Hayter of Lucan in her home when she entertained a large group of Lucan friends, and the bride's great aunt, Mrs. Ken Clampitt and cousin of Lobo. Dianne Shipway assisted her sist- er open her gifts. Mrs. Ed. Butler of Lucan was hostess for the third shower which was followed by a wiener roast. A quiet two ring marriage ceremony, was solemnized at 9 am Saturday August 6, in Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Lucan, when the rector, the Rev. E. 0. Lancaster, united in marriage Susan Edith Shipway and Clayton Ross Ferguson. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Shipway of Alice St., Lucan, and the groom is the son of Mr. Clayton Fer- guson of Windsor and the late Mrs. Ferguson. Given in marriage by her fath- er the bride chose a sleeveless street-length gown of pink bro- caded taffeta which featured a large matching bow at the front waist line and a split cape at the rear was attached by a pink rose to the rounded neckline. A should- er length chiffon veil with scal- loped edge and a corsage of deep pink carnations completed her ensemble. We barbectied hot dogs and had pop and cookies. We played Freeze and had races in three different age groups with prizes for both the races and the game. Then we had a hike through the woods and left the Conservation Area about two o'clock. The Summer School has been a big success this year and we hope the children have enjoyed themselves and learned some- thing too. A BEE-LESS BEE The Lucan Lions Club held another bee, at the Scout Hail Saturday. Though there were no bees left, to keep them on the run, yet they spent a very busy day painting, mowing and clean- ing up the grounds. By MARILYN HEARN Friday afternoon August 12, the Summer School had a special event at the Arena. For the two previous days, the children had been preparing their costumes. Wednesday they made Indian headbands with painted feathers in them. Thursday afew of the children made Indian cos- tumes from potato sacks. The children dressed up as Indians, cowboys and pioneer women. They sang a few Indian and cowboy songs and played some games. Then they painted sonic shells with various designs and had a bubble gum-blowing contest and w e gave out red licorice to all who attended. Mr. Burt judged the costumes: Debbie Davis came first and Faye Black second. They were awarded chocolate bars as prizes. Friday August 19, the Summer School closed for the year with a picnic at the Ausable Conser- vation Area with about 43 child- ren attending.
