Cut logs at fall fair?

turning home with Mrs. Wackier.

A new attraction for Exeter
Fall. Fair was suggested at Ex-
eter council, Monday.
The event would be a log cut-
ting contest and council would
provide the necessary timber.
The idea came about when
Works Superintendent Jim Pais-
ley reported that a large elm
tree at the entrance to the Com-
munity park had been killed by
Dutch Elm disease and should
be removed before limbs start
to drop on children on their way
to school.
"We should have it out before
school starts, but it will cost a
lot to take it down," he advised.

Clerk-Treasurer Eric Carscad-
den. The question he wanted ans-
wered was whether the Anglican
cleric let them out before it rings
again at 12:00.
Reeve Boyle wants to know if
some residents would saltlike to
be driving horse and buggies.
He posed the question after It
had been reported that some
people were sorry to see the old
street lights removed from Main
Street.
Also prompting the question
Was a statement that one person
travelling through town had stated
nothing should ever be done with
the town hall, as it was a fine
example of architecture.

bind to come up with the sug-
gestion that the tree be felled
and left until fair day, when a log
cutting contest could be staged.
While it may provide an inter-
esting attraction, the cost of
having others do the chopping at
no cost to council prompted the
suggestion.
The irregularity of the town
clock has prompted some com-
plaints -- both lighthearted and
serious.
The fact the clock was striking
about five minutes before six
didn't meet with favour from two
local businessmen. They phoned
Jim Paisley to report their em-
ployees were leaving Work on the
stroke of the clock and were
therefore getting off five minutes
early.
Rev. Phil Gandon aired the
second complaint, although it had
to do with the fact the clock was
five minutes slow.
He reported some people in
his congregation apparently went
by the clock and when they ar-
rived in church as the bell was
tolling 11:00 a.m., he had already
commenced the service.
This, he jokingly stated,
brought him several questioning
looks from those who thought
they were on time, but ended up
late.
