Greys start play tonight
Henson lose in playoff opener
attack with a single and triple,
but most of the team's runs
came from free passes issued
by the St. Marys hurler, who
walked four in a row in the fifth
when Hensall scored two of their
markers,
runs in the bottom of the frame
off the slants of June Chuter,
but Hensall pulled to within one
run with another pair in the
third, with the help of two errors.
The winners wrapped the game
up in the fourth with two more
tallies and pulled the game well
out of reach with two more in
the sixth.
GREYS LOSE
Besides losing their contest
to Hensall, the Exeter Greys
finished the season on a sour
note as they dropped another
tilt and tied one, that being a
10-10 contest with Brussels.
Again the Greys failed to hold
Up an early lead as they allowed
Brussels five tallies in the fifth
and three more in the seventh.
That late inning ;Wising left
the Greys trailing, but they picked
up three of their own in the final
at bat to post the tie.
In the other game, they were
humiliated by a 22-2 count against
St. Marys. The latter opened the
game wide open with 14 big
tallies in the third,
Only 29 batters faced the St..
Marys hurler as she repeatedly
sent them back to the bench in
order.
Couples mark
20 years wed
A Mb anniversary party was
held Saturday, July 30, in Rus-
seldale Hall in honor of Mr.
and Mrs. Alan Coward, Kitchen-
er, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Hod-
gert, Milwaukee, 'Wis., and Mr.
and Mrs. Keith Hodgert, London,
with 80 in attendance.
The evening was spent in danc-
ing to Nelson Howe's orchestra
assisted by Roger Christie on the
saxophone. Following lunch an
address was read by Mervyn
Hodgert and each couple was
presented with money.
In charge of the evening were
Mr. and Mrs. Mervyn Hodgert,
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hamilton
and Mr. and Mrs. Whitney Coates.
The ilensall Golds dropped
their first genie in the round-
robin playoff between them-
selves, Exeter Greys and Bruce-
field, when they came out on the
short end of a 9-4 count against
Brucefield, Monday.
The Greys get their first taste
of the series when they host the
Brucefield gals on Thursday and
they play Hensall here on Satur-
day.
Only other game In the coming
week pits. Exeter against Hensall
in the letter's park on Tuesday.
Each team plays four games
in the round-robin, with the top
two squads facing each other
in another set to determine the
team to face the northern win-
ners.
Hensall started off in fine
fashion Monday as they plated
two runs in the top of the second
when Eleanor Shiels connected
for a triple and Marian McNutt
tagged a single.

Gets whopper in Mexico
While on his honeymoon in Mexico, Conrad Sitter caught this huge
sailfish in the Pacific Ocean off the Bay of Acapulco. The fish was
over eight and a half feet long and weighed some 120 pounds. The
hotel in the background is where Mr. and Mrs. Sitter (nee Bonnie
Hogarth) spent four days of their stay in Mexico.

Rounding out the regular sea-
son play, the Golds split a pair
of games as they nipped the
Exeter Greys by a 10-9 count
and were whipped 12-4 by St.
Marys.
The Golds scored nine runs
in the bottom of the sixth to
record the comeback win over
Exeter, They were trailing 6-1
at the time.
Exeter opened the scoring with
their six tallies in the third
frame, paced by doubles off the
bats of Ann Cronyn and Connie
Kernick. Jan Bennett had a single
and Hensall helped the cause
with one error and a walk.
Mary Lou Hyde toured the
sacks for Hensall after hitting
a single in the bottom of the
third, being driven in by Linda
Regan.
Things remained scoreless un-
til the big Hensall uprising.
Eleanor Shiels paced that inning
with a homer and a single, while
Linda Regan picked up a single
and double. Mary Lou Hyde hit
for a triple and singles came
from Marian McNut t, Muriel
Ferguson and June Chuter.
Two walks, a Hensall error
and a single by Janice Loader
accounted for three runs for the
Greys in the last frame, but
they could only pull within one
run.
June Chuter picked up the win
and Pat Down was the loser.
In the contest at St. Marys,
Hensall fell behind by four runs
in the first two innings and were
never in contention, as they lost
12-4.
Eleanor Shiels paced the Golds
Vets remain on top
in rec loop action
loaded homer in the Kin's big
fifth frame.
Virgil McNab and Don Bell
shared the pitching duties for
the winners, while Jim Warren
and Lyle Little toiled for the
losers.
Exeter Legion continue atop the
Rec league softball standings,
taking two straight wins over the
past week. Bowling Lanes and
Kinsmen are in a tight battle for
the runner-up position.
The Vets outlasted Centralia
16-11 and shut-out Kinsmen 4-0.
The Bowlers blasted Centralia
16-4, edged Teen Towners 3-0
and were clobbered by the Kin
club 20-12. In other action Teen
Town downed Centralia 8-4.
HOMERS KILL CENTRALIA
Four home runs, three coming
in the third frame powered the
Lanes to an easy 16-4 win over
C entralia.
The Russell brothers, Jim and
Bob, and Ron Bogart smashed the
long balls as the Lanes tallied
seven times in inning number
three. The other round-tripper
came from the bat of Joe Wooden
in the second.
Jim Warren and Gord Slaght
combined on the bowlers mound
to gain the victory.

VETS BLANK KIN
In an exciting and fast moving
contest, Wednesday, the Legion
shut-out the Kinsmen 4-0. Dune
Mousseau was in fine form on
the Legion hill, facing only 26
men in the seven inning game
and allowing but two safeties.
Mousseau won his own game in
the fourth, doubling to left after
Jim Pinder and Cy Blommaert
had reached the paths with sale
hits.
Jim Finnen and Murray Brint-
nell also crossed the pan to
complete the Vet scoring. COLOR TELEVISION
KIN BLAST LANES
In Monday night action, the
Kinsmen tallied five times in the
first and never looked back as
they outlasted the Lanes.
Doubles by Dave McCutcheon
and George Pratt, three con-
secutive walks and a single from
the bat of Jim Hewitt produced
the opening Kin markers. The
winners added four more in each
of the third and fourth and finish-
ed with a five run outburst in
the fifth.
The Lanes biggest threat came
in the fourth when five runners
crossed the plate. Bob Russell
tripled and brother Jim and Lar-
ry Stire contributed two-baggers
in the big frame.
A homer from the bat of Ken
Jackson with two on was the big
Kinsmen blow in the fourth. Al
Flynn and Jim Russell blasted
circuit clouts for the Lanes in
the sixth, both with the bases

Staffa WI members and friends
enjoyed a bus trip to London,
visiting the General Steel Wares
in the morning, then on toSpring-
bank for lunch. After lunch they
toured the CNIB Tweedsmuir Hall
and then to the Hyland Theatre to
see and enjoy ',The Sound of Mu-
sic". After supper a couple of
hours shopping was enjoyed.
Mr. & Mrs. Lorne Fell have
returned home from a motor trip
to the western provinces.
Miss Fay Templeman is visit-
ing for a few days with Miss Shar-
on Knott, Carlingford.
Patti Norris is holidaying this
