It was graduation night for the Exeter Promenaders Friday evening
at the Exeter arena and the new members nearly doubled the ranks of

Exeter Promenaders' mem-
bership was increased to almost
double Friday night with the
graduation of twelve couples from
the beginners' group.
Besides the Exeter Promen-
aders, there were guests from
London, Clinton, Seaforth and
Petrolia. There were twelve
squares dancing at the arena.
Guest callers were Lloyd Bucha-
nan, London; Egbert Jacobs,
Brunner; Norm Whiting of Pet-
rolia, formerly of Exeter, Larry
Steeves, Clinton and Jack Fair-
field of Exeter. Club caller is
Earl Bowles.
Diplomas and club badges were
presented to the graduating
couples by Earl Bowles. A comic
song, written by President Bob
Mackie, was sung to them, with
each verse pertaining to one of
the couples.
Following the refreshments,
an after-party was conducted by
the entertainment committee,
Earl and Marie Bowles.
Bob Mackie interviewed Mrs.
Gerda Mudslinger, who was
really new Promenader, L e s
Greenwood. His impersonation
of the current ,,ligure" caused
quite a sensation with the audi-
ence. "Gerda" revealed she had
monogrammed towels marked
"Hers" and "Nees".
The second skit was the enact-
ing and singing of "Hole in the
Bucket" accompanied by Gerry
MacLean on the guitar. Mary
Henn played the part of Lisa
and Earl Bowles was the bare-
foot Henry.
The cast of the final skit was
made up of entirely new Prom-
enaders. They were Helen Bow-
man, Norma Wade, Murray
Greene, Tom Tomes, Paul
Greenwood and Murray Lee, who
presented a hilarious doctor's
office skit.
March 20 the Promenaders ac-
cepted Wayne and Marj Tuckeys'
invitation to bring their families
to the sugar bush to see the
maple syrup being boiled. Each
family had been told to bring an
empty jar, which was filled during
the afternoon with freshly made
maple syrup. The many children
were kept busy running from tree
to tree to see which buckets
needed emptying, and they car-
ried gallons of sap to the shanty.
While the syrup was boiling,
Jack Fairfield and Al Chase, ac-
companied by guitar player
Gerry MacLean, called for three
squares of dancers. Following
the dancing in the leaves, the
children were all taken for a ride
on a tractor - drawn trailer
around the farm. All agreed it
was an enjoyable family outing,
and proved interesting to those
who had never seen the maple
syrup process before, especially
those from other parts of Canada
and England. It was also an
unusual way to celebrate the
20th anniversary of the building
of the shanty.
Next m o n t h two important
square dance events take place in
this area. April 23, the final
meeting of the season and annual
banquet of South Western Ont-
ario Square Dancers° Associa-
tion will be held at the Exeter
Legion Hall. Election of officers
will be held.
April 23, Hensall Arena will
be the scene of the Jr. SWOSDA
jamboree, which will include
children's groups from all over
the SWOSDA area, hosted by
the Hensall Square Dancers. Last
year the jamboree was held in
Exeter,
