Microfilm
As Canada's centennial year
approaches more and more Can-
adians are realizing the value
of keeping records of current
events. The Exeter Library has
microfilms of early issues of
both the Exeter Advocate and
Exeter Times newspapers from
1873 to 1910 with more being
added gradually, also a reader
is provided to view these films.
Visit your library during the
week of March 26 - April 2
and make it a habit.

J. L. Amos
J. Linwood Amos, 91, of Ailsa
Craig Nursing Home died in
Strathroy Middlesex Gene r al
Hospital, Friday, March 11.
Mr. Amos was born in Mc-
Gillivray Township and farmed
there most of his life. He retired
to Craigholme about five years
ago.
He was an elder of Brinsley
United Church.
Surviving are his sons, Owen
and Ernest, both of London. Grant
and Joseph, both of McGillivray
Township, John K. of Wanstead,
Dr. Norman of Kirkton; daugh-
ters, Mrs. Stanley (Margaret)
Grabowski, Mrs. Gordon (Kath-
leen) Rock, both of London, Mrs.
John (Mabel) Schofield and Mrs.
Jack (Gertrude) Rosser, both of
McGillivray Township; rothers,
Mrs. W. C. Robinson
Mrs. W. C. Robinson, '78, a
native of this community, died
at Grosse Pointe Woods, Michi-
gan, Sunday, March 13.
She was the former Minetta
Passmore of Usborne Township.
She was married 49 years ago
to Wilfred C. Robinson of Tor-
onto where she was employed
previous to her marriage. Her
husband was killed 17 years ago
to include Highway 401 in West-
ern Ontario but a definite de-
cision has not yet been reached,
he said. The OPP patrols start-
ed in the Toronto area last year.
Other areas which will be in-
cluded in the London-based sky
patrol, he said, are Windsor
and parts of the Burlington and
Mount Forest districts.
A single-engined light aircraft
is to be used in the patrols. It
will be piloted by a civilian with
a policeman as passenger.
Contact negotiations with the
firm which owns the plane are
still incomplete, but an agree-
ment is expected to be reached
shortly, Supt. Ayers said.
He declined to name the firm.
The aircraft will carry a spe-
cially-trained policeman who will
watch for traffic offenders from
the air and relay his observations
to an interceptor car on the
ground.
Exact date of when the Western
Ontario patrols will start is still
in doubt, said Supt. Ayers, since
the two-member team which will
be taking to the air must first
attend a special course in Tor-
onto.
Area drivers will have to eith-
er slow down or start watching
the skies within the next few
weeks. OPP sky patrols are being
extended to cover western On-
tario within the next few weeks
and this includes the Exeter area.
The announcement was made by
Superintendent A. E. Ayers head
of OPP No. 2 District.
Highways 4, 22 and '7 are be-
ing marked at quarter mile in-
tervals in preparation for the
start of the sky patrols. Included
in the plan is Highway 4 from
London to Clinton.
A survey team has already
started to mark the highways
and they are being assisted by
constables to ensure they are
exactly one quarter mile apart.
The time a car takes to cover
the distance between the paint
marks on the highway allows a
policeman in a plane to deter-
mine the vehicle's speed.
Highway 4 is being marked
from St. Thomas to Port Stanley
and from London to Clinton; High-
ways 22 and 7 are being marked
from London to Sarnia, Supt.
Ayers said.
