Protected how? With benefits up to $86.54 a week if an employee is disabled for more than two calendar days by an on-the-job accident or related disease happening on or after January 1st. What about permanent disa- bility ? He's covered. Benefits in- clude all medical expenses and pen- sions for permanent disability. How about the worker's family? In death cases there are allowances for funeral expenses and pensions for widows and children. Is this the same Workmen's Compensation that 2,000,000 men and women in other lines of work have protecting them? Exactly the same. What about the Farmer? He and his wife also can be covered by Workmen's Compensation, by making a special application to the Workmen's Compensation Board. And his Family ? If they work on the same farm and get a stated wage, they are automatically covered, as is the Farm Employee. Is there a charge to the Farm Employee for this? No. Farm em- ployers provide this protection through assessments based on their 1966 payroll, payable in August. UCW ELECTS OFFICERS The Christmas meeting of the UCW was held in the church basement last Tuesday evening with thirty-four present and Mrs. Wm. Spence in charge of the program. A reading '• The Spirit of Christmas" was given by Mrs. Ellis Strahan and Mrs. Nelson Ernst led in prayer. Mrs. Oscar Brine gave a reading "The Gifts of the Wise Men". A Christmas pageant "The Star Lighted Path" was presented with several mem- bers taking part. Following the program Mrs. James Mitchell, a valued member of the UCW was called to the front and Mrs. Fred Parkinson read an address and Mrs. Austin Timms presented her with gifts on behalf of the Woodham group. Lunch was served. W, Dickert and family. * 4 4 MARK ANNIVERSARY Thirty relatives, neighbors and friends surprised Mr. and Mrs. Dave Triebner Saturday evening December 11 when they dropped in to celebrate their 25th wed- ding anniversary. Entertainment for the evening was progressive euchre, prizes going to Elgin Thompson and Mrs. Gordon El- liott. They were presented with gifts by Jerry Moffatt. The address was read by Cliff Henderson. Mr. Triebner thanked everyone for their kindness and lunch was served. UCW MEETING Twenty-eight members ans- wered the roll call by telling 'what they liked best about Christmas" at the UCW meeting held Tuesday evening December 14. President, Mrs. Bert Faber was in the chair. The worship service was taken by Mrs. Morley Cooper. A skit "a gift no money can buy" was ably presented by seven ladies led by Mrs. John Sinclair. Mr. Wm. Gibson of Hensall gave an interesting demonstration on Christmas centrepieces and cor- sages and had a number on dis- play. A donation of $15.00 was made to Westminster College. Reports were given by the various mem- bers of the executive. Hostesses were Mrs. Robert McGregor and Mrs. Wilmer Jones. Nine Christ- mas boxes were packed by the unit leaders and taken to the shut-ins by Mrs. Emerson Kyle and Mrs. Bert Faber. CHRISTMAS CONCERT Monday evening December 20 the annual Christmas concert was held at St. Andrew's United Church with a good attendance. Leonard Lovell acted as chair- man. * * * The program included chorus- es by Sunday School; reading by Les Coleman; skit, by Jr. boys, recitations, Janice Turner, John Binnendyk, Shir 1 e y Chalmers, Leslie Consitt, Jeffrey McKay, Dianne Consitt, David Lovell, Kevin Lovell and Mark Consitt; piano duet, Darlene and Dianne McKay; musical number, Grant and Kenneth Jones; baton number, Dianne ConSitt; a skit, "Our Scheme" by primary class; and vocal duet, Joan Sinclair and Elizabeth Smale. Rev. Roulston gave a short Christmas message. A duet by Darlene and Dianne McKay her- aided the appearance of Santa presenting each child with candies, treats and gifts, A so- cial hour followed.
