Stress safety
Officers of the Ontario Prov-
incial police have turned lyrical
in their efforts to stress traf-
fic safety during the dangerous
holiday season. The following
are a few of the jingles released
by the Exeter Detachment of the
Ontario Provincial Police.
Don't be rash in the Christmas
rush,
Don't get caught in the New Year
crush,
Make highway safety really pay
And death won't take your holiday.
Or;
The hand that lifts the cup that
cheers
Should not be used to shift the
gears.
Or;
The mark of the killer, the guy
full of foam
Who knows he can't walk it, but
tries to drive home.
Some of the slogans for the month
include:
I'll tell you the tale of Samuel
Day,
Who died contesting the right-
of-way.
He was right, dead right as he
sped along,
But he was just as dead as if
he were wrong.
Or;
What causes highway accidents?
Well, experts all conclude,
The gasoline is too refined,
The drivers much too crude.
Another jingle stresses the need
for good tires:
His tires were worn so satin
smooth,
You couldn't see the faintest
groove,
The fabric showed, the tires were
thin,
for holidays
The blowout made an awful din.
And as a final warning:
One fact that police inspection
won't unfold,
In untangling the wreckage —
the brakes didn't hold[
