Lucan WI met in the Community Centre Thursday afternoon with the president, Mrs. T. A. Watson, in the chair. The roll call was answered with a gift for Thames- wood Lodge. The secretary Mrs. Murray Hodgins read the Christ- mas story. Arrangements were made for two euchres on January 12 and January 26. Members present donated the prizes. It was decided to invite Mrs. Calvin Carmichael, district pre- sident, to the January meeting, By RAY DOBROSKI In the Shamrock Hockey League Lucan pee wees played to a 4-4 tie against Huron East. Allan Kraul led the Lucan attack with 3 goals and Allan Van Fleet add- ed a single. The Lucan bantams outskated Huron East to a 8-1 victory. D. Revington scored 5 goals to lead the way for the Irish singles going to B. Evans, J. Hearn and T. Hodgins. The midget encounter played to a 2-2 tie and displayed good fast hockey. Lucan scoring was done by L. Laye and K. Rush. Good goaltending by J. Freeman kept Lucan in the game. In South Middlesex Hockey League, Lucan Merchants after leading 4-0 at one point in the game had to fight back to gain a 5-5 tie with Strathroy Jets. Lucan took their early lead on goals by Frank Hardy, Jack Parks, Garry Levier and Leo Dewan. Strathroy --thewo-45ithe— lead with Bev Mackeys' 3 goals and Bill Westgate's 2. With less than 5 minutes remaining in the game. The music throughout the pro- gram, under the direction of Mrs. Clarence Hardy of Lucan, was outstanding especially her senior choir. The program opened with Mrs. Morton's Grade 1 colorful rhythm band in costume of blue and white. The fact one small xylophone player couldn't keep up just, add- ed to the enjoyment. Mrs. McGregor's and Miss Corsaut's Grade 1 and 2 pre- sentation of "The Night Before Christmas" was enjoyed by the Mr. and Mrs. Meine Eizenga left Tuesday on a plane trip to Holland to visit the former's 91- year-old father and other rela- tives. Mr. & Mrs. Bob Patterson visited Mrs. Beatrice Ellwood at Strathmere Lodge, Strathroy Sunday, Although Mrs. Cecil Holmes of Lucan was unable to oust last Friday's Shopping Spree winner, on Monday was still a very lucky winner bingo player for she won $29 in cash, a three month supply of green peas and because she knew the name of the mystery shopper as "Robinhood", she also won a long list of groceries. Mr. & Mrs. Lloyd Maguire of Scotland, Ont. were S a tu rday guests of Mr. & Mrs. Jim Mug- ford. Mr. & Mrs. Ken Greb of Cen- tralia were Sunday guests of Mr. & Mrs. Don Abbott. Mrs. Lizzie Cathro,97,passed away in Regina ' December 5 and was interred at Regina. Among her survivors are two nephews Eldon and Clarence Young of Lucan and niece Mrs. Mary Daun- cey of London. Mr. Glenn Haskett, formerly of the Lucan NuWay Motors, is now Working for the London Motor Products. Mr. & Mrs. Jim Davis and fain,. ily spent Sunday in Brussels and brought back Mr, Davis' mother, Mrs, Marie Davis to holiday with them. Mr, & Mrs. Eldon Hodgson of Alice St. celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary, Dec. 16 at the home of their son Mr. Jack 110dgson of Ailsa Craig. which will be held at the home of Mrs. Murray Hodgins. After the singing of Christmas carols, led by Mrs. Hodgins, short articles on how Christmas is kept in Austria, Belgium, Bra- zil, Bulgaria, French Canada, China, Czechoslovakia, D e n- mark, E ngland, Finland and France were read by Mrs. Or- ville Jones, Mrs. Gordon Bant- ing and Mrs. Alex Young. Lucan Squirts remained unde- feated as they played to a 1-1 tie with Exeter. Jeff Park kept the Lucan-Irish from golzig down to their first defeat I's he scored the lone Lucan goal. Mr. Allen's all-boy-choir sang four numbers. Miss Shoebottom's Grade 3 and 4 "Emblems of Christmas" was most colorful and well done as was Mrs. Gled- hill's Grade 4 and 5 in "Peace to Earth". Mr. Allen's and Mr. Cooper's Grade 5, 6, and '7 presentation of "Santa on Trial" drew big applause in the trial scene of Santa who was acquitted by the judge after many witnesses were heard. Mr. Flannigan and Mr. Lay's Grade '7 and 8 variety show was excellent with its tumbling, pyra- mids and square dancing. During the evening Mrs. Hardy was presented with a gift. Mr. Harold Butler Sr. who suf- fered a stroke November 24 is still a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital but is making satis- factory recovery. Mr. & Mrs. Norman Schell and family of Stratford were weekend guests of Mrs. Jane Somerville. Mr. John Park, who under- went surgery in St. Joseph's Hospital, last Monday is making satisfactory recovery. Explorers view Christmas film The Lucan-Clandeboye E x - plorers held their 9th Expedition in the United Church school- room, last Monday eve. The film, "Where Jesus was born" was shown. Julie Henderson and Brenda Herbert were in Charge of the worship service, the theme of Which was, "Christmas, and Christmas carols." To assist the Bible Society the collection of used stamps will continue until the end ofJanuary. The girl bringing in the most stamps to each meeting will be crowned Miss Used Stamp Queen." At Monday's meeting the queen was Judy Froats with 110 stamps. At the meeting $10 was voted to the building fund and $10 to the special relief fund, During the craft period, candy cane brooches were made, Mrs. D. B, Cox assisted the counsel- lors. Owing to Christmas festivities the next meeting will not be until Jan. 17. were displayed, some were par- ticularly outstanding and color- ful. The members were then divid- ed into two groups, "The Reds" and "The Whites", headed by the president and secretary, for a "Christmas Fowl Contest", con- ducted by Miss Lina Abbott. The contest ended a tie, so a box of chocolates donated by Mrs. Ron Crozier, was shared by all. Each member also took to the meeting samples and recipes of her favorite cookies. The cookies we re used for refreshments. Mrs. Frank Hardy was lunch convener. Surprise party for anniversary Saturday evening Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Lewis of Concession 16 London Township were honored guests at a surprise party, held at the home of their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Lewis of Concession 15 Lon- don Township, in honour of their 40th wedding anniversary. The evening was spent in pro- gressive euchre, with high score prizes going to Mrs. R obe rt Coughlin of Lu c an and "the groom", Mr. Clarence Lewis. During the evening gifts were .presented to the celebrating couple from their family and friends. Both Mr. and Mrs. Lew- is made appropriate replies. A buffet luncheon was served, from a table, centred with a three-layer wedding cake. Guests numbering 25, were present from Lucan, Sarnia, Streetsville and Clandeboye. Lifetime farmer of Biddulph James William Kelly, 92, passed away in St. Joseph's Hos- pital, London, Sunday, Dec 12. The body rested at the home of his son, James Kelly, Lot 29, Concession 11, Biddulph until Wed. Dec. 15 then to St. Patrick's Church, Biddulph, for requiem high mass at 10, with Rev. Fa- ther F. J. Bricklin officiating. Interment was in St. Patrick's cemetery. Pall-bearers were Der win Beatson, Bill Cook, Joe Leslie, Hugh Tookey, Anthony Lamp- hier, Harold Ryan. He is survived by two sons, James of Biddulph Township and Benny of Lucan, also seven grandchildren. His wife, the for- mer Bridget O'Shea, predeceased him some years ago. Mr. Kelly was born in Biddulph Township, where he was a life- time farmer. Keeping Xmas CGIT theme The Lucan-Clandeboye CGIT meeting was held Monday even- ing in the Anglican Church par- ish Hall, with the theme of the worship service "Let us keep Xmas" taken by Marie Coch- rane and Carol Haskett. Initiation service for Linda Lightfoot, was conducted by pres- ident Nancy Park, leader Mrs. Murray Hodgins and a repres- entative from the intermediate group, Lori Crudge. "Christmas Around the World", covering Austria, Bel- gium, Bulgaria and French Ca- nada was given by Jane Corbett, Jane Hodgson, Sherry Fisher and Betty Park. Final plans were made for the tour of the Victoria School of Nursing Dec. 28, and the tour of Silverwoods and theatre party, Dec 30. Five girls each brought her favorite record to the meeting. These were listened to, sung to, or danced to. Ladies bowl for turkeys The Ladies Bowling L e agu e held its bowl-off for turkey and chickens, Mon. Dec. 13. Lorna Harrison, with a score of 662, won a turkey for high triple. Loretta Dickson with a score of 279 won a turkey for high single. Irene Theander, with a score of 261 won a capon for low triple, Lois Stanley with a score of 62 won a capon for low single, and Mary Latta, with a score of 154, won a capon for hidden score.
