Less than one year since arriv-
ing in Exeter the Exeter Custom
Trailer Company has produced
it's one hundredth unit and have a
large backlog of orders which
will keep them busy through the
EDP fall months. The one hundredth
unit was a 12 foot by 52 foot
model destined for an Edmonton
dealer end came off the assembly
line last week,
The floor of the new plant was
poured August 24, 1964 and since
that time the company has manu-
factured units which have been
sent to every province in Canada.
The first mobile home came off
the assembly line November 2,
1964 bound for Kapuskasing, On-
tario, From then on orders came
in for various types of units
including a mobile X-ray unit
for Newfoundland, a mobile lab-
oratory for the Department of
Health, Ottawa, camp units for
construction in western Canada
and luxury mobile homes for
people in every province.
The company has built very few
vacation units since it started
in operation, mainly because of
the great demand for the larger
luxury trailers. The largest
trailer the company has produced
was completed last week and was
shipped to Fredericton, New
Brunswick. This 12 foot by 60
foot unit rolled off the assembly
line completely furnished.
President of the company, Bill
Smith, refers back to the time
when the people of Exeter "made
it possible" for the company to
start. In conducting a tour of the
plant be pointed out that the units
are completely manufactured in
Exeter. The steel frames are
fabricated here and then the corn-

pleted unit is built onto t hi s
frame. The units can be either
custom built to the customers
specification or from basic plans
supplied by the company.In many
cases customers choose a com-
pany plan and then have modifica-
tions made to suit their needs.
It takes only six days from the
time a start is made on manu-
facturing the frame until the fin-
ished product, completely fur-
nished rolls off the assembly line.
The company started with 13
employees, most of whom had
worked with Mr. Smith before
the formation of the new corn-
pany. The demand has been SP
great that the staff has grown
to 20 men with the new men
added from the Exeter labor force
where ever possible.

If you calculate on an average
of four people to a family and
multiply by the 100 trailers which
Exeter Custom Trailer Company
has produced and you come to
the conclusion the company has
supplied the equivalent to ac-
commodation for a town of 4,000
people. This is not the case how-
ever as some of the units pro-
duced by the company are used
for such things as laboratories,
offices and camps.
Last week the staff stopped
for a moment to take a long look
at the one hundredth unit which
rolled off the assembly line since
the company started operations.
The top photo shows the 100th
trailer just as it left the factory
with staff members gathered
around. The center photo shows
the largest trailer the company
has ever produced, 12 feet by
60 feet. It was completed just
over a week ago and was shipped
to Fredericton, N. B.
The company started with a
staff of 13 but an increase in
sales has meant an increase in
production and so more staff have
been hired: Shown in the bottom
