Mrs. Fred Broadley of Mar-
lette, Mich. formerly of Hen-
sall, met with an accident at
her home last week when her
pet spaniel dog bit her around
the mouth and lips, the injuries
requiring some twenty-five
stitches. The accident happened
when Mrs. Broadley in the dark
accidently stepped on the dog
who was lying on the floor.
The Broadley's took up resi-
dence in Marlette April of this
year.

With ideal weather prevailing
the annual picnic of Hensall
Women's Institute was held on
the lawns at the home of Mrs.
Garfield Broderick, Hens all,
Wednesday evening, June 9, with
a picnic supper served and
enjoyed by twenty three adults
and seven children.
At the conclusion of supper
a short business meeting was
held presided over by president
Mrs. peverly Beaton, when
Mrs. R. A. Orr gave highlights
of the District Annual at Zurich
recently. Mrs. R. M. Peck, Mrs,
James Bengough, and Mrs. V,
M. Pyette were appointed a
committee to arrange articles
for the exhibit at Exeter Fall
Fair.
A full line of sports were
enjoyed under direction of Mrs.
Wilbert Dilling and Mrs. Eliza-
beth Riley, and the winners
were: Putting balloon inbasket,
Mrs. Archie Noakes; girls race,
Karen Broderick; boys race,
Allan Reid; boys shoe scramble,
Michael Davis;
Sponge contest, Mrs. Robt.
Elgie's side; potato race, Mrs.
Joe Ferguson's side; birthday
closest to day of picnic, Mrs.
Thomas Kyle Sr; button contest,
Mrs. Fred Beer; measuring

Approximately two hundred
pupils from grades 6, 7 and 8
of Hensall Public School, Zurich
Public School, and Hay Town-
ship schools will take alms trip
to Toronto Friday, June 25,
where they will tour the mu-
seum, airport, and Legislative
buildings. The pupils will be
accompanied by their principals
and teachers from their respec-
tive grades.
Oldest resident
has 96th event
Mrs. Phoebe Weber, apatient
at the Queensway Nursing home,
Hensall, for the past two years,
will celebrate her 96th birthday
at the nursing home (today)
Thursday, June 17.
The oldest resident in Hen-
sall, Mrs. Weber was a lifelong
resident of Zurich where she
was a seamstress most of her
life and her favorite hobby has
been gardening.
She was also an active worker
in St. Peter's Lutheran Church,
Zurich. Members of her family
are one son Morris, Zurich;
daughters Mrs. Hugh T hie 1,
Zurich, and Mrs. Gertrude Det-
ers, London.
The event will be celebrated
with a birthday party at the
Nursing Home.

Dr. Earl S. Lautenschlager,
BA, BD, DD, LL D, Principal
of Emmanuel College, Toronto,
was guest minister at anniver-
sary services in Hensall United
Church Sunday, June 13 at 11
am and 7:30 pm delivering in-
spiring and challenging mes-
sages to large congregations.
For his morning subject he
spoke on "Keeping the Sabbath
Holy". Guest soloist Mr. Allan
Elston of Centralia sang two
solos.
At the evening service Dr.
Lautenschlager chose for his
theme "The Two Trees of
Eden". The choir sang two
selections. Mrs. John Turkheim
was organist.
Flowers in the church were
in grateful recognition of all
those who have served the
church in the past and at the
present time. Rev. H. F. Cur-
rie, minister of the church,
was in the pulpit and introduced
the guest speaker.
School students
will be worshipping in this
church the last Sunday in June
and the four Sundays in July.

Set anniversary
for Chiselhurst
Plans were made for a UCW
anniversary on Sunday, July 11
at 11 am with Mrs. Arthur
Jackson, Belgrave, guest
speaker, when Chiselhurst UCW
met Thursday evening. Four-
teen members and one visitor
were present.
Mrs. Clarence Coleman led
the worship on "Pentecost"
and Mrs. A. Ross gave the
missionary prayer, Mrs. T.
Brintnell gave an interesting
account from the study book
on "The cultures and homes
in Trinidad". Mrs. R. Taylor
gave two poems.
An invitation was accepted
to visit the Arnold Circle of
Carmel Church Hensall, Mon-
day evening, June 21, when
they observe their 35th anni-
versary.
Meetings will be withdrawn
during July and August. Presi-
dent Mrs. Harold Parker chair-
ed the meeting and hostesses
were Mrs. Lloyd Ferguson and
Mrs. Parker.

In a quiet wedding in South
Huron Hospital, Exeter, Satur-
day, June 12, (where the groom
is a patient), Rev. Harold F.
Currie of Hensall united in
marriage Beatrice Ford of By-
ron, formerly of Hensall, and
Jack Faber of Hensall.
The attendants were Mr. and
Mrs. William Sims, Exeter.
The couple will reside on the
groom's farm RR 1 Hensall.

30 years wed
Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Jarrott
of Brucefield celebrated their
30th wedding anniversary Fri-
day, June 11, and a surprise
family dinner was held at the
Dominion Hotel, Zurich, in their
honor. Attending the celebration
were Mr. and Mrs. Maurice
Heist, Crediton; Mr. and Mrs.
Don Brunzlow, Exeter; Mrs.
Elizbath Anderson of Bruce-
field.
After dinner they were sur-
prised with a get-together of
the relatives held at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Don Brunzlow,
Exeter. An enjoyable evening of
progressive euchre was follow-
ed with the presentation of love-
ly gifts and lunch.

ted over the weekend with Mr.

Mrs. Gordon Whiteman is a
patient in Victoria Hospital,
London, where she will undergo
surgery.
