Mrs. Wm. Morley and Mrs.
Gordon Johnson were hostesses
for the May UCW meeting in the
church hall Thursday evening
with 16 members and two visi-
tors present.
Mrs. Eric Atwood was in
charge of the worship service
and was assisted by Mrs. Mc-
Leod Mills. Mrs. Hamilton Hod-
gins favoured with a reading
and there was a lesson com-
ment, "According to your
Faith".

Kippen UCW met in the church
Tuesday evening May 11. Thirty
ladie s attended. MrS. Keith
Lovell opened the meeting with
the worship, Two selections
were rendered by the Misses
Sharon Strong and Joan Sinclair,
accompanied on the piano by
Mrs. John Sinclair.
Mrs. Robert Elgie introduced
the guest speaker, Mrs. Eliza-
beth Moore, Exeter. Mrs.
Moore showed her pictures tak-
en in Africa last summer and
commented on them which was
interesting. Mrs. Alex McMur-
trie made the courtesy remarks
and presented Mrs. Ivibore with
a Small gift.
Different reports were given
and tentative plans made for the
strawberry supper. Mrs. Har-
old Jones, reported on the an-
nual meeting held in Seaforth
in March which she along with
the president, Mrs. H. Faber
and Mrs. T. W. Reid attended.
Before lunch was Served by
Mrs. Ralph Turner and Mrs.
Chas. Hay, Mrs. Robert Mc-
Gregor conducted a contest,
and a half hour was spent so-
cially.

this Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

Splendid congregations
attended anniversary services
in Carmel Presbyterian Church
Sunday last and listened with
pleasure to Rev. William Weir,
BA, BD, minister of Knox Pres-
byterian Church, Stratford, and
a former minister of the church.
For his morning sermon topic
he spoke on "Past, Present
and Future". His evening mes-
sage was ,,Mistakes Men
Make".
The Misses Judith, Faye and
Susan Oesch of Zurich contri-
buted to the service of praise
with vocal selections. The choir
under direction of Mrs. Bea-
trice Hess sang two numbers.
Early summer flowers formed
a floral background for the
church decorations.
Rev. J. C. Boyne will be in
the pulpit during the rest of
May. During June, Mr. Douglas
C odling, BA will be guest
preacher. Rev. Boyne will oc-
cupy his own pulpit during July
when the United Church will
worship with them.
The CGIT met Wednesday
evening May 19 at the home of
John Burke, Exeter. This was
the last meeting until Septem-
ber.

Pyette, were in Kitchener Wed-
nesday of last week attending
a luncheon bridge held at the
Bingeman Park Lodge. They
were guests of the former's
daughter, Mrs. Ross MacMil-
lan.
Keglers cop
Zurich cups
The Zurich Mixed Bowling
League wound up its season with
a banquet at Dashwood Com-
munity Hall last Saturday.
The Nite Hawks from Hensall
captured both the league trophy
and the team play-off trophy.
The team including Hazel and
Hugh McEwen, Phyllis and Bar-
rie Jackson, Greta and Murray
Baker and Betty and Jack Sim-
mons, were presented with the
trophies by the president Lorne
Hay. Hazel McEwen was pre-
sented with the 193 high aver-
age trophy by Mrs. E. Laidlaw.
Also present at the banquet were
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Broadley
of Marlette, Michigan, who were
members of the Nite Hawks
prior to their departure from
Hensall.
TROPHIES AT BANQUET
The Hensall Hi-Lites Bowling
Team won the "A" Champion-
ship play off trophy, also in-
dividual trophies for the whole
team. The presentation was
made at a banquet at Dashwood
May 12.
Members of the team were
Hazel McEwen, Iva Reid, Cathy
Bell, Betty Sangster, Dorothy
Mousseau, Janet Lovell, De-
lores Schilbe, Margaret Neeb.
Ruth Clausius presented
Betty Sangster with the trophy
for high single 316. President
Hazel McEwen presented Mary
Taylor with a gift for the oldest
bowler. Door prizes were do-
nated by Zurich Bowling Lane
and Hi Fashion Beauty Salon
and the executive of the Bowling
League.
Kinettes donate
to two charities
Hensall Kinettes held ameet-
ing Wednesday evening, May 12
at the home of Mrs. William
Clement, when plans were fi-
nalized for the annual spring
rummage sale.
A letter was received from
the group's adopted Italian girl.
Donations were made to the
Cystic Fibrosis and Cancer
Funds. The raffle was won by
Mrs. Ron Wareing.
Next meeting will be at the
home of Mrs. John Deitz, May
26.
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Norman Holland, newly-weds, are residing
in Clinton. The bride was the former Patricia Marilyn Jones,

Churches, the WMS and Arnold
Circle of Carmel Presbyterian
Church, Hensall. Mrs. Harold
Parker chaired the meeting and
welcomed guests.
Mrs. T. Brintnell introduced
the guest speaker, Mrs. Gilbert
Beecroft of Belgrave, president
of the Huron Presbytery UCW
who spoke on "What Christian-
ity can mean to UCW". She
asked the audience to carry the
love of God in their hearts and
their every day actions.
Mrs. R. Taylor led the wor-
ship on the theme ',Walking
with God", and prayer was of-
fered by Mrs. Clarence Cole-
man. A duet by Patricia Harris
and Ruth Anne Coleman and a
trio with Mrs. A. Ross, Mrs.
R. Taylor and Ruth Anne Cole-
man accompanied by Mrs. Ro-
bert Kinsman contributed spe-
cial music for the evening.
Mrs. Russell Brock gave
courtesy remarks. Social com-
mittee was Mrs. Ed Dick, Mrs.
Percy Wright, Mrs. Roy Mc-
Donald, Mrs. Lloyd Ferguson
who were in charge of refresh-
ments.
Pair celebrate
25 years wed
Mr. and Mrs. Clendon Chris-
tie celebrated their 25th wed-
ding anniversary Tuesday, May
11. They and their daughter
Catharine Anne were entertain-
ed at a family dinner Monday
evening at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Wm. T. Dodds of McKiilop.
The table was beautifully de-
corated in pink, centered with a
tiered wedding cake. The happy
couple were recipients of many
gifts, cards and congratulatory
messages. Most of the imme-
diate families were present.

Another degree
Ted Normington, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Ed Normington, has
added another degree to his
present list. He will receive
his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)
from the University of Toronto
at spring convocation later this
month. He previously attained
his B.A. and M,A, from the
University of Western Ontario.
His Ph.D. is in applied mathe-
matics and he has accepted a
position as assistant professor
in this subject at Carlton Uni-
versity, Ottawa. His wife, also
a math teacher, has accepted
a position at an Ottawa high
school.

Sunday evening May 16 four-
teen Hensall-Chiselhurst Young
People met together attheHen-
sall United Church. Miss Ann
Mickle and her group were in
charge.
Eric Ross, John Goddard,
and Doug Currie led the devo-
tional. Miss Jane Pyette played
a piano solo.
Miss Mickle showed slides of
the trip her family took out West
four years ago. Miss Mary
Payne conducted two games.
Lunch was served.
Grandmothers were special
guests of Hensall Women's In-
stitute at the historic al re-
search meeting held in the Le-
gion Hall Wednesday evening,
May 12 and attended by over
fifty who were welcomed by
president, Mrs. Beverly Bea-
ton.
Roll call was "Who has lived
in my house". In appreciation
of her work on the Tweedsmuir
History and Fair exhibits,Mrs.
R. M. Peck was presented with
a gift, the address being read
by Mrs. N. E. Cook and pre-
sentation by Miss Mattie Ellis.
Plans were made for the
annual picnic to be held on the
lawn of Mrs. Garfield Bro-
derick's home the second Wed-
nesday in June.
Mrs. Robert Elgie took the
chair for the program, Mrs.
Thomas Sherritt introduced the
guest speaker, Mrs. W. D. Mack
of Crediton, who spoke on "His-
torical Research", presenting
an outline of early customs.
Mrs. Edna Caldwell gave an
interesting demonstration of
quilts and home made mats.
Grade 1 and 2 of Hensall
Public School entertained with
square dance selections to re-
corded music. Mrs. Harry Hess
of Zurich was soloist, singing
for her numbers "The Church
of Long Ago", and ,,When Pa
was courting Ma". Mrs. Wm.
Fuss was accompanist.
Mrs. Wilbert Dilling gave
courtesy remarks. The hall was
lovely in a setting in keeping

RUMMAGE SALE
The annual spring rummage
sale sponsored by Hensel]. Kin-
ettes held Saturday was very
successful and with ideal weath-
er prevailing there was a record
crowd.
Several cartons of used cloth-
ing not sold were handed in to
the United Church for their
spring bale, to the Children's
Aid Society and to the Salvation
Army.

Jim Hyde was elected presi-
dent of Hensall Kinsmen for
1965-66. Past president is John
Baker.
Vice presidents are Murray
Baker, Bob Caldwell; secre-
tary, Wayne Reid; treasurer,
Alvin Campbell; registrar,
Harold Caldwell; directors,
George Beer, Robert Reaburn,
Ron Wareing.
Guests at their dinner meet-
ing were Clifford Quance and
Morley Chalmers of Exeter. It
was disclosed that the draw for
the five thousand pennies was
very successful. Members held
a white elephant auction. John
Baker, Jim Hyde and Wm. Fuss
were appointed delegates to the
District Convention in Buffalo
in May.
