Friday night a particularly
large crowd attended the Le-
gion dance in the Legion Hall.
Saturday evening the annual
pot luck supper for L egion
members and their families,
was held.
Mrs. Lloyd Mason made the
draw for the beautiful doll, doll
chair carriage and outfit, which
has been on display in the Da-
vis Hardware window. The lucky
winner was Mrs. George Berdan
of West Lorne.
LIONS CLUB MEETING
At the dinner meeting of the
Lucan Lions Club in the Angli-
can Church basement last Mon-
day evening, plans were made
for the annual New Year's Eve
dance to be held in the Com-
munity Memorial Centre, with
the executive to be in charge of
necessary arrangements.
The members of Mrs. Her-
man Young's group of the La-
dies' Guild catered

The people of Lucan were
shocked Friday by the tragic
death of Mrs. H. A. Chown
(Bill) 45, the former Kathleen
Fern Hodgins, daughter of the
late Mr. and Mrs. Haryey Hod-
gins, who was killed instantly
when her 1964 ,model car hit
the concrete Trout Creek bridge
on Highway 7, about three miles
east of St. Marys.
Mrs. Chown who had cared
for both her mother and father
through long illnesses was her-
self in poor health and had been
in and out of hospital several
times. In October Mr. and Mrs.
Chown had sold their Lucan

Last Wednesday evening the
ladies of St. Patrick's Church,
Saintsbury, catered to a turkey
dinner at the Biddulph Central
School for the 36 members of
the Board, the staff (wives and
husbands).
After the showing of some
slides, the evening was spent
in progressive euchre. High
score prizes went to Mrs. Art
Abbott, RR 1 Centralia and Mr.
George Aikens, Lucan; 1 o w
score prizes to Mrs. Mac Al-
lison, 'McGillivray Township
and Mr. Bob Garrett, Granton,
and lone hand prizes to Mr.
Cecil Bowman, Granton, and
Mrs. Laverne Morley, Whalen.
home and had moved to Strat-
ford. They had planned to at-
tend the wedding of their aephew
in London, Saturday and Mrs.
Hodgins was on her way to the
local beauty salon, when the
accident occurred. As she was
alone in the car no one knows
what caused the accident.
Mrs. Hodgins' body rested
in the Murdy Funeral Home,
Lucan, until 2 pm Monday, Dec.
14 when the Rev. E. 0. Lan-
caster of the Anglican Church
and Rev. G. W. Sach of the
United Church, conducted fu-
neral services. Interment was
in St. James Cemetery, Clan-
deboye.
Pallbearers included Messrs
Joe L e sli e, Calvin Haskett,
George Paul, W. E. Sovereign,
Cliff Shipley, Art McLean and
Lang De Coursey.
Besides her husband she is
survived by two sons, Bill at
home and Bob of London.
Flames gut
area home
Thursday fire partially de-
stroyed the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Donald H. Scott on the
Denfield Sideroad London Twp.
Flames destroyed the upper
floor and rear section of the
two-story frame house, but II-
derton firemen were able to
save the garage and barn.
The cause of the fire is un-
known as the five members of
the family were away at the
time. Mr. Scott was picking
corn six miles away, Mrs. Scott
shopping in London, two daugh-
ters at school and five-year-
old Katherine at the home of
her grandparents.
Mrs. Scott discovered the
fire on her return from Lon-
don but couldn't get in the
house for smoke so had to drive
one-half mile to the school to
give the alarm.
Township was a Saturday guest
of Mr. & Mrs. Don Abbott.
Mrs. Aijoe Culbert and son
Fred spent a few days last
week with. Mr. & Mrs. Norman
lienkala. of Detroit.
Mrs. Evan Hodgins spent a
few days this week with her
daughter Mrs. Tom Treibner
of Exeter, while Mr. Triebner
was in Toronto.
Mr. & Mrs. Tom Kooy of
Ailsa Craig and Mr. & Mrs.
Harry Noels of Forest, were
Sunday guests of Mr. & Mrs.
Maurice McDonald.
Mr. & Mrs. Howard McDon-
ald were Saturday guests of
Mr. & Mrs. Dave Morrissey of
Mt. Carmel.
Barbara England, five-year-
old daughter of Mr. & Mrs.
Thomas England, who required
30 stitches to her left hand
when she fell on a broken jar
is able to be home from the
hospital, but her hand is still
in a cast.
Saturday, Mrs. Keith Dickson
entertained five boy friends of
her son Harry on his 10th birth-
day.
Mr. & Mrs. Don Abbott and
family were Sunday guests of
Mr. & Mrs. Murray Abbott of

Mr. Thos. England of Eliza-
beth St. has added an addition
to his body shop at the rear of
his residence.
After nine weeks in St. Jo-
seph's Hospital Mrs. John Loy-
ens is able to be home.
Mr. Harry Bawden, manager
of the Bank of Nova Scotia at
Chesterville, spent a few days
with Lucan relatives last week.
Flowers in Lucan's three
churches on Sunday were in
loving memory of the late Mrs.
William Brownlee.
Mrs. Phin Dickins of London
has returned home after spend-
ing a few days with. Mrs. Bob
Coleman.

underprivileged
Marilyn Hearn, president,
was in the chair for the CGIT
meeting in the United Church
schoolroom last Tuesday even-
ing at which time a tour of
the London Free Press was
planned for December 29.
A Christmas welfare pro-
gram was also planned. By an
unanimous vote, the girls
agreed to forego an exchange
of gifts and in groups of three
to use the money they would
have spent to purchaSe some-
thing for a local underprivileged
child.

Hearn led in the recreation and
Jane Crozier assisted by Janis
Freeman and Betty Park led in
the worship service.
Owing to the quilt made and
donated by Mrs. Charles Has-
kett to the branch, not being
sold' at the recent bazaar the
girlS were advised to consult
with their parents and friends
to See if they could secure a
purchaser as the proceeds will
go towards the new window.

bell decorations
Last Monday evening 28
members of the Lucan-Clande-
boye Explorers attended their
9th Expedition in the United
Church schoolroom.
Mrs. Ross McRoberts told
the story of i'The Shepherd
Who Did Not Go", and several
Explorers enacted a nativity
play. A practice on the singing
of Christmas carols was held.
Nine girls received the 1 r
first blue stars: Judy Froats,
Jtilie Henderson, Elizabeth Re-
vington, Mary Mohr, Helen
Simpson, Nancy Young, Louann
Shipway, Brenda Herbert and
Joan Donaldson.
Three girls received their
first gold star, Jane Hodgson,
Margo Rollings and Pat Hod-
gins.
During craft, each girl de-
corated a Christmas bell to take
home, made from a Javex bottle,
sprayed with gold paint and
decorated.
