Serious financial loss and many
needless worries result from ne-
glect of small details during a
change of residence, warns the
All CanadaInsurance Federation.
Many moves are made in the
spring-- a time of change and
activity — and the All Canada In-
surance Federation, represent-
ing more than 220 competing
fire, casualty and automobile in-
surance companies, makes these
recommendations for a worry-
free move to a new home.
1 List your new address with
the post office and telephone com-
pany.
2 Use post office-supplied
cards to notify regular corres-
pondents of your change of ad-
dress. Only first class mail is
forwarded.
3 Inform your insurance agent.

A CMHC FEATURE
If you plan,on building on your
own lot, the number of designs
from which you can select are
practically unlimited.
This does not make the task
any easier but it is perhaps more
satisfying to know that the house
you are going to live in was of
your own selection.
Plans are usually drawn on a
quarter •inch scale, that is, a
quarter inch on the drawing
equali one foot of the actual
house.
It may take a little time for
those looking at plans for the
first time to picture the sketch
as a full-size building.
It often helps if paper cut-
not completely cover your new
residence. General liability in-
surance is not in effect on your
new home until the new address
is listed with your insuring com-
pany.
4 Register the change with
your bank. Credit references
checked at your old address may
prove embarrassing.
5 Let your doctor know. An
emergency call without the cor-
rect address could be dangerous
to your family.
6 List the new address with
the automobile license bureau so
your license will be valid.
7 Check your automobile in-
surance agent. Accident insur-
ance premiums may be higher
or lower in a different area.
8 Re-affirm the new address
with the post office within N
days.
outs of your furniture, drawn on
the same quarter inch scale,
are placed in the respective
rooms on the drawings. This
will give you a more accurate
idea of the space provided in a
given house design.
A rough figure for the con-
struction cost of a house is be-
tween 10 and 11 dollars a square
foot for a bungalow, depending
on the type and quality of ma-
terials involved; between eight
and nine dollars per square foot
of floor area for a two storey
house.
For a one-and-a-half storey
house the cost is between nine
and ten dollars, while the split
level house will run a little high-
er.
There's plenty,of variety in the
new homes being erected in .g?c-
eter and community.
That's reflected in the pictures
which highlight The Tint es-AdvP,
pate's first Home Edition.
While bungalows remain the
most popular housing unit in the
area, other designs are evident.
Two-storey and storey-aptha-
half plans are being chosen.
And multiple housing units are
appearing in a variety of forms,
including duplexes and semi-de-
tached houses.
Houses pictured in this edition
are not necessarily the newest or
the best —but they are yepre-
sentative.
In addition, there's been a. move
to renovate older houses in the
town. A number of families are
taking advantage of the size and
solid construction provided by
earlier builders to gain the space
that comes costly in new houses.
A ntimber of representatiVO
renovations are shown on these
pages.
Principal reading matter
comes from the nation's largest
home-builders — Central Mort-
gage and Housing Corporation —
which has supervised Canada's
housing boom. The corporation's
advice results from extensive
experience.
You'll get many ideas for im-
proving your own housing from
the stories, pictures and adver
tising presentations in this Home
Edition.
