Actually, the two losses in Picton are the least of the worries of the Combine management. During the two games, L-I ran into a series of no less than five injuries to key players. With a week off, the club hopes to get most of the five back in playing shape. Defenceman Don "Red"Urb- shott, with a shoulder separa- tion, along with Steve "Sam" Storey, Doug Galloway, "Dus- ty" Aldis and prolific scorer Ronny Ryan, all support the in- jury parade. IN LUCAN FRIDAY Picton will make its initial start on Lucan ice this Friday night at 8;30 pm providing the Combines whip the McFarlands on the scoresheet, the fourth game of the series will be held in Lucan Saturday. Six in third period Picton McFarlands rammed home six third period goals to win the first game of the pro- vincial Int. "B" playdowns by a 6-4 count. Combines looked to have the game well under control as the local club held a 3-0 lead at the end of the second period. How- ever, the McFarlands came out flying in the final 20 minute ses- sion and proved to be too much for L-I to handle. Picton centre Dave Jones was the big gun .1n the third period drive with two goals. Before the firing had ceased, John Baker, Lionel Botely, Ronny Hull and Pug Kellar each chipped in with one each. Earlier, Combines surged in- to a 1-0 first period lead at playing with a •fractured arm, collected his first at 17;20 of the opening period on a play with Livermore and Mike Cush- man, Bob Livermore set up Cooper for his second mid-way through the final session. The Shamrock Junior "D" champs ran up a comfort- able 4-0 lead by the mid-way mark of the second period and coasted home. Lanky Mike Cushman was the big gun in this one with two goals and three assists. The hard- working centre shot H-Z into a 1-0 first period lead on a play with Bob Livermore. He added his second with only 30 seconds remaining in the second period when he rammed home Steve Kyle's rebound. Aggressive fore-checking on the part of Cushman set up a pair of goals for Bruce Cooper and one for Bob Livermore. Cooper and Livermore each got one during the second period in which Combines' whipped four pucks past a shaky Glenn Jackson in the Stouffville net. Cooper knotched his second of the night at the 11:35 mark of the final period. Free-wheeling c e nt reman Billy Shaddick scored the other Combines goal just after three minutes and 15 seconds of play in the second period. Stouffville moved out in front again in the second period just after 50 seconds of play. This time Hooper put Ross Brown in the clear. At 4:40, Bill Shaddick put the clubs back on even terms on a play with Craig Chapman. The game was in doubt right up until the mid-way point of the third and final period. Then centre Earl Wagner, playing with a slightly fractured left arm, sank Bill Shaddick"s clearing pass for the winning goal. Bob Livermore added the in- surance marker at 17:31 after Stouffyille pressed all around Hensall-Zurich netminder Den- nis Amacher. Bruce Cooper and Mike Cushman assisted on the play. Three pace victory Craig Chapman, Billy Chip- chase and BruceCooper scored two goals each to personally direct the Combines to an im- portant 7-4 victory over the Clippers in Stouffville Saturday afternoon. Chipchase, fresh out of mid- get ranks this year, netted his first goal on a play with Bob Hoffman in the first period. He picked up his second at the 2;40 mark of the middle session after combining with Dennis Morrissey. Craig Chapman, who turned in one of his best offensive displays of the season, blinked the light with two seconds to go in the second period and at 19;43 of the third. If Combines clipped the wings, of the Clippers in Stouffville Wednesday night (yesterday), it's all over but the final ban- quet. However, if the Stouffville club can outscore the Hensall- Zurich representatives, then it will force a fifth game in the series which will be played in Hensel' Friday evening. To date, however, the power- ful Combines have outscored Stouffville 17-9 in three games. The local club even outclasses the Clippers in the assist de- partment with a 21-11 edge. MORE COMMUNITY BUILDERS! The building of the newly proposed Exe- ter district swimming pool is the height of excite- ment with the youngSters these days. Even the swimming instructors and supervisors are thrilled with the idea. Mel Gaiser passed on the informa- tion that a little red tape 'continues to hold up the "go-ahead" for building but all should be cleared up within a week or 'so. As everyone knows, a major project like this needs working capital. The finance report shows that already some $27,000 has been raised, thanks to many Exeter and district donations both from individuals and from private organiza- tions. With some $4,000 still to come, various organizations continue to hold special events as fund-raising campaigns. One of these is taking place tonight (Thursday) at the SHDHS in Exeter. Beta Sigma Phi, with chairman Noel Veri directing, is holding a fashion show 'a't the local high 'school starting at 8:15 p.m. All proceeds will be turned over to the swimming pool drive.
