Return from tour
to southern U.S.
Mrs. John E. Mcgwen and
Mrs. Edna Caldwell have just
returned home after a three-
week tour of California.
They left London March 26
and after a brief stay in Chic-
ago visited Omaha, the birth-
place of Fred Astaire and Hen-
ry Fonda. Here also they visit-
ed the internationally known
Joslyn. Memorial Art Museum
valued at three million dollars
and made of pink marble.
At Salt Lake City "Gateway
to the West" is the Mormon
Temple, one of America's most
magnificent shrines of worship,
visited by thousands.
They found San Francisco a
unique combination of the old
and the new noting the cobble-
stone streets and cable cars,
The ladies explored the south-
ern California city of Los An-
geles and its exciting neighbor,
Hollywood where they saw the
homes of the stars in Beverly
Hills and famous Disneyland.
Hoover Dam, one of man's
greatest engineering triumphs,
Grand Canyon, and health re-
sorts of Arizona, Santa Fe,
capital of New Mexico, Denver,
Colorado, and St. Louis, on the
Mississippi river were other
places of note they saw. They
returned again by way of Chic-
ago and London.

District Deputy President,
Mrs. Elva Osbaldeston of God-
erich, paid her official visit to
Amber Rebekah Lodge and
brought an inspiring message
last Wednesday evening. She
asked the members to attend
the school of instruction in God-
erich April 29.
A donation was made to the
Canadian Cancer Fund. Noble

Asia" was shown.

A farewell tea for Mrs. Clif-
ford McKercher was held Tues-
day evening, April 21, arranged
by several friends who pre-
sented her with a gift.
Mrs. McKercher, Tracey and
Kelly are planning an extended
visit to her parents at Green-
wood, N.S. while her husband
is taking a special course at
Camp Borden. At the conclusion
of his course he will be posted.
DIRECTS STUDY
UCW unit 1 met Monday even-
ing under the leadership of
Mrs. Robert Reaburn with six-
teen present. Mrs. V. M. Pyette
and Mrs. Earl Soldan gave the
devotional, and Mrs. Ian Mc-
Allister, the Bible study.
Members were informed of
the order bake sale May 9. The
May meeting has been moved
ahead to May 11.
Mrs. Rodger Venner contri-
buted a humorous reading and
Mrs. Ross Richardson directed
contests. Mrs. Blighton Ferg
and Mrs. Ian McAllister were
hostesses.
UCW TO LAY FLOOR
Mrs. Alvin Cole and Mrs.
Jack Brintnell were hostesses
for the meeting of Chiselhurst
UCW held in the church Tues-
day afternoon. Nineteen mem-
bers answered the roll.
Mrs. Ken Parker conducted
the worship service the theme
being "Family Life". She was
assisted by Mrs. Percy Harris.
A chapter on the study book
on India was taken by Mrs.
Russell Brock. Mrs. A. Boyce
gave the report of the Presby-
terial meeting held recently
in Exeter. Mrs. Harold Currie
favored with a solo.
The ladies finalized plans for
a cement floor to be laid in the
basement at an early date. Pre-

The Arnold Circle of Carmel
Presbyterian Church met Mon-
day evening, April 20 with pre-
sident Mrs. Gordon Schwalm
presiding. Program and wor-
ship was in charge of Mrs. Don
MouSseau and Mrs. Gerald Bell
with the theme "How are we the
PreSbyterian Church of Canada
in India? They told of the be-
ginnings of the Bhil and the
Jhansi areas, Mrs. John Baker
read scripture passages, and
MiSs Hannah Murray gave a
detailed report of the Synodical
held in New St. James Pres-
byterian Church, London. Mrs.
Cathy HoOkins, who tendered
her resignation as leader of
the Explorers was presented a
gift, presentation address was
read by Mrs. Schwalm, and gift
presented by Mrs, John Skea,
