A donation from former resi-
dents, now in Toronto, was
among contributions ack-
nowledged this week by Exeter
and District Swimming Pool
Committee.
The Toronto donation, from
Mr. and Mrs. Ferne MacLean,
cheered finance chairman Ted
Pooley. "We were pleasantly
surprised to receive the $25
cheque," he said. "Perhaps
this will encourage other for-
mer residents to contribute
too."
The MacLeans, enthusiastic
about the project, included a
community "prod" in their let-
ter to the committee. It read:
"We have been following with
interest the drive for funds for
a much-needed swimming pool
in The Times-Advocate.
"If a village the size of Lucan
can have one, surely so can a
town the size of Exeter which is
supposed to be one of the weal-
thiest towns for its size accord-
ing to statistics.
"Being former residents of
that town and now having chil-
dren and grand-children resid-
ing there, we're pleased to help
with the project."
Here's the list of new donors:

H-Z Combines
-Continued from page 6
four games to three. It was a
battle all the way.
Strathroy held a 2-1 first
period edge in play. Combines
got the only goal of the second
period to make the final 20
minutes of play the deciding
factor for the group title.
Jimmy Bender sank Dave Ro-
binson's goal-mouth pass at the
even 2:00 minute mark to give
the Rockets a temporary 3-2
lead.
Bob Livermore got that one
back with his second goal of
the game at 4;46 of the third.
Mike Cushman andBruce Coop-
er assisted on the play.
Combines took advantage of a
Strathroy defensive lapse at the
12;50 mark as Bruce C6oper
rammed home a loose puck
after Mike Cushman had worked
the disc free from a Rocket de-
fender.
It looked as though H-Z had
things all wrapped up by the
16:20 mark as Earl Wagner
polished off a beautiful three-
way passing play with Bill Shad-
dick and Craig Chapman.
However, Strathroy kept their
hopes alive when Cam Brady
lugged the puck right down the
ice and scored Rockets' fourth
goal of the night just 25 sec-
onds later.
Rockets kept pressing around
the Combine net for the equal-
izer but agile netminder Dennis
Ameeher held the fort.
Earlier in the game, Craig
Chapman scored a first period
goal and Bob Livermore regis-
tered his first of two at 19:35
of the second period.
Jimmy Bender and Mac West-
gate were Strathroy snipers in
the first period.
