A lemon tree owned by Mrs.
Gordon Schwalm, Hensall,
which she has had for 16 years,
has three large lemons ready to
drop weighing three-quarters
of a pound each and 14 Inches
in circumference.
The tree is laden with blos-
soms, buds and tiny lemons.
One lemon weighing one pound
which dropped recently, was
taken by Mrs. Schwalm to her
sister's , Mrs. Ian Philpott,
Rochester, N.Y. where several
lemon pies were made out of it.

Mrs. Harry Faber, 62, of RR
1 Hensall died in South Huron
District Hospital, Exeter, Sun-
day January 26, where she had
been a patient for the past three
weeks.
The former Mary Ellen Cald-
well she was born in Tucker-
smith in 1901, daughter of the
late Mr. and Mrs. Guy Caldwell.
She had wide experience in
the nursing profession gradu-
ating as a RN and gold medalist
at Cochrane GeneralHospital in
June 1932. She nursed with the
Sir Wilfred Grenville nurses in
the Labrador and Newfoundland
Indian Hospital, Birtle, Man.,
hospitals in B.C., Hamilton,
Toronto, and Beck Memorial,
London.
She was a member of Hensall
UC, Hensall WI, and former
member of Amber Rebekah
Lodge, Hensall.
She was married in 1943 to
Harry Faber who survives. Two
brothers, Harry and William
Caldwell, predeceased her.
Public funeral services were
held from the Bonthron Funeral
Chapel Tuesday, Jan. 28, con-
ducted by Rev. Harold Currie.
Interment was in Exeter ceme-
tery.
Pallbearers were Vern Al-
derdice, Jack, Harold and Ron
Caldwell, Ross and Russell Fa-
ber.
UCW makes plans
for '64 projects
UCW unit 3 met Monday even-
ing for their first meeting of
the new year under the leader-
ship of Mrs. Ron Mock.
The devotional with the theme
"Meditation and Money" was
taken by Mrs. Clendon Christie,
assisted by Mrs. Pearl Pass-
more and Mrs. Walker Carlile,
During the business period
Mrs. Mock asked for sug-
gestions from the members for
projects for 1964 to be brought
to the next neeting. This unit
will be responsible for the nur-
sery and flowers for the church
for the month of February.
An interesting chapter from
the study book "Opportunity in
India" was reviewed by Mrs.
Jack Simmons.
Slides on Europe were shown
by Mrs. Robert Lambie.
UCW President Mrs. Walter
Spencer spoke to the group
wishing them every success for
1964.
PLAN DAY OF PRAYER
The WA of St. Paul's Anglican
Church met at the home of Mrs.
R. H. Middleton Tuesday after-
noon. Mrs. J. Philip Gandon,
new president, and wife of the
rector, conducted the meeting
and also showed the new film
strip "Around the World in
Prayer" showing the work done
by offerings given 'at the World
Day of Prayer. This film was
put up by the Women's Inter-
Church Council of Canada,
Mrs. T. Lavender gave a
synopsis of the study from
"Kingdem, The Power, and the
Glory" book.
Arrangements were made for
the World Day of Prayer to be
held February 14 in St. Paul's
Church.

Club Wednesday, January 22.
Plans under the chairmanship
of Mrs. Ron Wareing were fina-
lized for the March of Dimes
campaign to be held Tuesday,
February 4, at '7 pm with Mrs.
Lorne Hay as marching mother.
An invitation was accepted
from the Kinette Club of Clinton
to attend a joint dinner meeting
February 11.
Mrs. Ross Jinks was hostess.
Mrs. Wareing won the raffle.
She almost
made 104
Mrs. Agnes Baird, oldest
resident in Huron County, who
would have observed her 104th
birthday Thursday, January 30,
died Friday evening January 24,
in Clinton public Hospital where
she had been admitted the Fri-
day previous.
She had been a patient at
Queensway Nursing Home, Hen-
salt, for the past four years,
She was born in Newark, New
Jersey, and came to Ashfield
Township with her parents when
one year old. She was the widow
of Thomas Baird.
Her grandmother lived to be
98 and her mother 93, and her
ripe old age was attributed to a
lovely disposition and long-
lived antecedents.
Surviving are a son, Tom,
of Brucefield, and a grandson,
Stewart, of Stanley Township,
Funeral services were held
Tuesday, January 28 at Ball &
Mutch funeral home, Clinton,
with burial in Baird's cemetery,
Stanley Township.

where Mr. Anderson will par-
ticipate in several trap shoots.
They expect to be away three
weeks.
Mr. & Mrs. Ron Broderick
and Rochelle, Kitchener, spent
the weekend with the former's
parents, Mr. & Mrs. Garfield
Broderick, and also attended
the funeral of Ron's grand-
father, the late Edgar Brod-
erick, held in Exeter Saturday.

and shipped nine cartons of
used Christmas and birthday
cards to Miss Agnes Gollan and
Miss Dorothy Bulmer, Nigeria,
Miss Ida White, India, Miss
Hildur H,ermanson, Formosa,
all Canadian missionaries in
these countries.
These are presented to the
children of these countries as
reward cards, Each carton
weighed six to six and one-half
pounds.
Between April, 1946, and Ap-
ril, 1963, farm employment in
Canada dedlined froth 1,100,000
to 610,000.

ELECTS 1964 OFFICERS
The annual congregational
meeting of the St. Andrews UC
was held Tuesday evening, Jan-
uary 21. It was preceded by a
pot luck supper served in the
schoolrooms by the outgoing
stewards, namely, Thos. Reid,
Duncan Cooper, and Laird Fin-
layson, assisted by their wives.
After supper the congregation,
about sixty in number, assembl-
ed in the church, with Rev. How-
ard Plant, in charge. Excellent
reports were given by the var-
ious committee leaders.
The new stewards nominated
by acclamation are, Ray Con-
sitt, Ken McKay, H. Anderson
and 0. Workman. Two new El-
ders were also nominated. They
are N. Dickert, and EdisonMc-
Lean. The Trustee Board,
namely, Wm. Bell, Robt. Mc-
Gregor, A. Parsons, J. Sinclair
and E. Kyle were re-elected.
