The Dashwood WI meeting
was held Tuesday, January '7,
with the historical research
group in charge and Mrs. Emil
Becker convener. Husbands
were special guests.
Mrs. E rvin Rader, vice-
president presided for the busi-
ness in the absence of the presi-
dent, who is ill. Mrs. Eben
Weigand who is in charge of the
Canada Packer coupons had on
display the coffee maker and
water pitcher purchased by
these. It was decided to save for
live more water pitchers. A
public euchre is to be held
January 29.
Following the business eu-
chre was played with prizes as
follows: High, Mrs. Ken McC rae
and Hugh Boyle; low, Mrs. Har-
ry Hoffman and Addison Tie-
man. Mr. Tiernan also received
the prize during the lunch hour
for the lucky plate.

ing to holiday in Florida, stop-
ping first at Tampa.

elected chairman of McGilli-
vray Township School Are a

Thursday, Jan. 9.
Trustee Roy Cunningham was
named vice-chairman and David
Henry was re-appointed secre-
tary-treasurer.
The board approved purchase
of a magazine rack for the
teachers' room, decorative
plants for the main entrance of
the school, music equipment and
chairs in sufficient quant'y to
complete seating of the two-
room auditorium.
Regular January meeting will
be held January 29 at 1:30 p.m.
Ladies' auxiliary to the local
branch of the Royal Canadian
Legion won s everal hearty
rounds of applause from their
husbands Thursday night during
the joint installation of their
1964 officers.
Retiring president of theaux-
iliary, Terry Heywood, presen-
ter her counterpart in the
branch, Herbert Broom, with a
$750 check to be used toward
mortgage payment on the Legion
hall, The branch Showed its
approval by an enthusiastic ack-
nowledgement.
The 1 a d ies also received
praise from retiring president
Broom for their assistance in
redecorating the hall. The auxi-
liary provided drapes for the
windows and paint which the men
applied.
Zone Commander Eric John-
ston, Goderich, installed the
branch officers and past presi-
dents of the auxiliary inducted
the ladies' executive, with the
assistance of acting sergeant-
at-arms Andrew Bierling. Pi-
pers from the branch band para-
ded the officers to the front of
the hall for the ceremonies.
New Legion president is Per-
cy Noels, supported by vice-
presidents Eugene Beaver and
Doug McCallum. Secretary is
Harvey Pfaff and Bert Ostiand
remains treasurer.
Sgt-at-arrns is Walter Ro-
maniuk, chaplain Rev. J. P.
Gandon and executive members
include Cliff Brintnell, William
Cutting, Murray Green, Graham

dies in hospital
Ernest Leroy "King" Davis,
74, a life-long resident of the
Exeter area, died in South Huron
Hospital, Wednesday, January
8, having been a patient for the
week previous.
Mr. Davis was an electrician
and for a number of years
worked with the hydro.
For many years he played
with the Exeter Band under the
leadership of Ted Harness and
later under Ted Walper, He
played the clarinet.
Surviving are his wife, the
former Edith (Jennie) Brock;
two daughters, Mrs. Gran t
(Mai.ion) Taylor, London; Miss
Dorothy Davis, EXeter; t wo
sons, Hugh, EXeter, and Robert,
Stratford; four grandchildren;
sisters, Mrs. Harry Dickson,
Chatham and Mrs. Regina Tay-
lor, London.
Funeral service was con-
ducted at the Hopper-Hockey
funeral home by Rey. J. W.
StephenSOn; on Saturday, Janu-
ary 11 with burial in Exeter
cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ru ss ell
Balkwill, Ken Bridges, Nelson
Squire, Ernest Hicks, Jack El-
Hot and Bruce Cann.
