program was concluded by a
duet sung by Mrs. Robt. Har-

Grand Bend bantams reach softball league finals
Grand Bend bantams will meet West Williams in the finals of the Larnbton-Middlesex softball
league next week. The resort team defeated arch rivals from Arkona Tuesday night to win a best-
of-three series which went the full three games. Two games are scheduled next week— Tuesday

Reunion at SS '7 Biddulph
(Granton School) was blessed
with a pleasant day Saturday,
making it possible for same 350
former teachers and pupils with
their families and friends to
renew old acquaintances and
recall school day memories.
Registration at the gate was
conducted by Mrs. Clare West-
man and Mrs. Robt. Hardie.
Donald Middleton was chair-
man for the occasion, and the
oldest lady pupil present was
Mrs. Abner Langford, Toronto,
age 91 yrs; oldest man pupil,
Emery Jermyn, Vancouver, B,
C., age 80 1/2 yrs; oldest
teachers present were Miss
Gladys Harrison and Mrs. Isa-
bel Knisley Scafe, Parkhill.
Those coming the farthest
distance were Mr. Gilbert
Grant, Souris, Manitoba, and
Miss Freeda Wells, Brockville.
Mrs. William Cook was the
pupil with the largest family
present.
All the teachers present were
A school history entitled
"School Day at Granton", pre-
pared and written by Mrs. Jen-
nie Raycrolt Lewis, was sold
on the grounds at fifty cents
per copy, some of which are
still available from rnembersof
the reunion committee. The
sound system was provided
through the Stewart Keith Tele-
vision Service.
Many people who came into
the school to have alook around
thought the hall and rooms loo-
ked much smaller than theyhad
imagined all of which goes to
prove that to the young things
look pretty big.

Like all other public schools
in Biddulph, Granton school clo-
sed its doors as a seat of learn-
ing June 28 and a new central
school is in the process of con-
struction near Lucan.
CHURCH NEWS
On.Sunday at St. Jame s
Church, the rector, the Rev.
E. 0. Lancaster, took the ser-
vice, after a four-week holi-
day,
The services during July
were taken by Mr. Ray Simp-
son of London,
Mr. Lancaster conducted the
service of Holy Communion
and announced that on Sunday,
August 11 there will be no ser-
vice here due to Archbishop
O'Neil of Halifax, a former
member of St. James Church,
taking the service at Holy Tri-
nity Church, Lucan at 11 am. All
members are expected to at-
tend.
The annual memorial and de-
coration service at St. James
cemetery will be held at 3 pm
on Sunday,. September 1.
At the United. Church, the
Rev. G. W. Sach took the ser-
vice and Mrs. Sach presided
at the piano. They have re-
turned from a motor trip as
far as Calgary after a four
week holiay.
PRESENTATION
In the Sunday School room
of the United Church here mem-
bers and neighbors met on
Thursday evening to honor Mr.
and Mrs. Gordon Eaton and son
Robert, who are taking up resi-
dence at 120 Grand Avenue,
London.
Following a short program
with Mrs. Rea Neil as con-
venor, a reading was given of
the Pinery and Kettle Point
from the book of Grand Bend
written by Andrew Dixon, of
RR 2 Ailsa. Craig teacher at
SHDHS Exeter. Rev, G. W. Sach
gave a short talk of his recent
trip by way of the N. States,
Lethbridge, Calgary, Banff,
Jasper Park, Winnipeg and Min-
nesota.
Mr. Sach told of the Eaton
family being so helpful many
ways with the work of the church
and how they will be missed
but with them the good wishes
of all.
Contests were won by Miss
Judy Trudgeon of Bryanston
and Tom Kestle.
Mrs. Wilmer Scott presented
a hostess chair to Mr. and
Mrs. Eaton and Mrs. Rea Neil
presented a desk lamp to Ro-
bert. Mr. Wm. Simpson read
an address of best wishes.
They replied, with thanks,
stating how they had enjoyed
living in this community since
November 1, 1952. Mrs. Doug-
las Thompson of Biddulph town-
ship is a daughter.
