Genttners gather
Plant half-million trees
in authority forest area
Nearly half a million trees
have been planted in the Aus-
able authority forest during the
past year, according to an un-
official report from Zone For-
est Larry C. Scales, Stratford.
The report, originally pre-
pared for the authority meeting
July 10 in Parkhill, was re-
leased this week by ARCA
Fieldman T. J. McCauley.
Over 260,000 of the trees
were planted in Hay s w amp
area, including the Wright,
Caldwell picnic
The Caldwell family reunion
was held at Springbank Park,
July '7 with an attendance of 50.
Members attended from
Hamilton, Sarnia, Centralia, St.
Mary's, London, Exeter and
Hensall.
A program of races and re-
lays was conducted by Mr. and
Mrs. Jack Essery and Mr. and
Mrs. Dave Roger.
After supper a short business
meeting was held. Mr. and Mrs.
Russell Caldwell are in charge
of sports for next year. Two
lively ball games were enjoyed.
The Genttner reunion was
held on Sunday, July 7, at the
residence of Bev, Lindenfield
With 58 in attendance.
Ray Genttner presided for
the electioe of the following

Canns at Elora
Members of the Cann families
met at Elora Gorge Park on
Saturday, July 6. Relatives from
a distance were welcomed by
Hon. Pres. Mr. and Mrs. Will
Millar of Salem and Mr. and
Mrs. Geo. Rockola of Guelph,
Mrs. Ola Davis, Scarboro,
and Mrs. Minnie Squire, Kirk-
ton, visited Mrs. Cora Morley
during last week.

Glassford, Oshawa, have been
holidaying with their cousin,
Mary Johnson.
Mr. and Mrs. David Hord and
family, Parkhill visited with
Mr. and Mrs. E. Ferguson on
Sunday. Mrs. Ferguson is ill
and under the doctor's care.

A total of three miles of fire-
guards were worked through-
out the forest and approximate-
ly one mile of new fireguards
was broken in the Hay swamp
area.
Also in the Hay area, 12 acres
of trees were marked and 28
cords sold on the stump. A
100-acre area underplanted to
white pine and white spruce was
released by poisoning poplar
and selling on the stump.
In the Ratz tract, 50 acres
were marked for crop trees
and for stumpage sale of bolts
and logs. Approximately 150
cords of bolts and 27,00p board
feet of logs sold.
Other activities included fen-
cing, clearing of wild apple and
thorn trees and poisoning of cull
trees.
The authority forests are
managed by the Lake Huron and
Lake Erie districts of the On-
tario Department of Lands and
Forests.
Miss Barbara Bieber holi-
dayed during last week with
Miss Betty Ann Lewis, Lucan.

the funeral on Friday of Mrs.
Klahre's aunt, Mrs. R. Ed-

PLAN FOR CENTENNIAL
Mrs. Laverne Morley and
Mrs. Bert Duffield were host-
esses for the IJCW meeting held
Thursday evening with 12 mem-
bers and 11 visitors present,
Mrs. Wm. Morley presided
over the meeting and took the
worship service assisted by
Hillary Atwood.
The executive gave a report
and from this it was decided
for each member to donate
three pies for the centennial
held on August 5 and also a quilt
will be made for Mr. and Mrs.
Eric Atwood which will be a
birthday gift to the former's
mother in England from the
Atwoods. It was also decided
to order the "World Friends"
for another term.
For the program Carol John-
son and Sharon Hodgins favored
with piano instrumentals and
Janice Morley with a vocal
