Farm Forum members would
like to see co-operatives stay
all-Canadian and they feel that
people should be free to shop
where it can be done most econ-
omically.
Fairfield Farm Forum mem-
bers meeting at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Gordon Wilson Monday
night felt there were enough
co-operatives in this district.
Alarmed at the growth of
co-ops within the last few years
businessmen predict that small
hardware, lumber, farm supply
and grocery retailers will be
taken over by co-ops. New
co-operatives are exempted by
law from income tax for the
first three years following com-
mencement of business and they
are permitted (by law) to deduct
from their earnings the amount
returned to their customer-
owners in the form of patronage
refunds. This was discussed
at the forum and members felt
income tax should be left the
way it is -- shareholders should
not have to pay twice on the
same dollar.
Mr. and Mrs. Ted Lamport
will be hosts for the Fairfield
forum next Monday night.
A sport that has only recently
become very popular, bowling,
is actually one of the oldest.
Back in 1611, the Pilgrims were
bowling on the streets of James-
town, Va.
