Huron District High School for

yes.

Yes. One 4-year program is
called the industrial program
and offers shops useful in in-
dustry and trades. The 4-year
agricultural program consists
of shops useful to a student Who
is planning to work on a farm.
How long does it take to
complete these branches?
In each branch--the arts and
science, science, technology,
and trades, and business and
commerce, there is what is
known as 5-year program and a:
4-year program. The 5-year
program ends in Grade 13 and
the 4-year program ends in
grade 12.
If a child enters the 5-year
program must he enter and fi-
nish grade 13?
No. He will be awarded a
high school graduation diploma
at the end of grade 12. This
will entitle him to enter grade
13 if he so wishes.
Is there a diploma at the
end of the 4-year program?
Yes. A student will receive
a high school graduation di-
ploma at the end of the 4-
year course.
Is there any difference in
the grade 12 diploma in the 4-
year program and the 5-year
program?
Yes. A grade 12 diploma in
the 5-year program enables a
student to enter grade 13 or any
higher form of education re-
quiring a grade 12 diploma
(Ryerson, Schools of nursing
etc.)
Will the Department of La-
bour recognize these technical
courses and applyAhem on ap-
prenticeship time?
No. Only in one case will
the department recognize the
time. A student who takes the
4-year science, technology, and
trades program and takes motor
mechanics as his major shop
may apply the last two years
on an apprenticeship in motor
mechanics. The other shops
have not yet been recognized by
the department of labour.

What is the Roberts Plan?
The Roberts Plan is an ex-
tension of education to include
vocational skills. It is felt that
some children might remain in
school longer if they had an
opportunity to receive training
for vocational fields for which
they have an aptitude.
What choices are available?
Arts and science branch at
South Huron District High
School, Exeter.
Science, technology, and
trades branch, at Clinton Se-
condary School, Clinton.
Business and comm e re e
branch at Clinton Secondary
School, Clinton.
What is the difference in
these choices?
Arts and science is, substan-
tially, the present g e ne r al
course. The student continues to
spend a high percentage of his
time on academic subjects with
shop, home economics, and typ-
ing being taken as options if
desired.
Science, technology and
trades--a percentage of time is
spent on shop options.
Business and commerce--a
percentage of time is spent on
commercial subjects.
What is an option?
In every branch there are
some subjects which a student
must take, called obligatory
subjects There is also a va-
ried list of subjects from which
he must choose a specified
number. The subjects which the
student chooses are called op-
tions.
