'Was the week before Christmas and all through
the shop
Ji the T -A employees were beginning to hop.
The brass from the office had sent out a decree
That reached right from the top and down to me.
Two papers we're publishing I noticed with shock
Hardly leaves time for getting Christmas stock.
One column a week is plenty stiff enough
But to fill two you need a raft of stuff.
I racked my brain for ideas to expound
But my noggin' was bare as the face of a hound..
But then I noted with jovial glee
A bright cheery card under our Christmas tree.
;1'Some guy had made money by composing a verse
'$o we thought we'd try for better or worse.
Our verses don't rhyme necessarily so
But then Cotton's not really Edgar Poe.
Christmas wishes for our sporting gentry
Are fairly simple and mainly elementary.
Fey Boom and his cohorts \vho promote the Tribe
We trust they get fans without paying out bribes.
;And for all the players who toil on the ice
To wish you good luck should really suffice.
For we know you can't win with lackadaisical play
So get out and fight hard and join in the fray,
Now up to the Lanes where Aub's pins are all .set
Don't leave them in the corner like a piddlin' pet.
'Tor all you curlers who do so ardently sweep
May your play be so good your skip never weeps.
And perhaps some night when to ice you descend
May you be so hot you cop all ten ends.
Mt remember if Southcott is in the next lane
Take it from Lois he hits like a train.
To our basketball friends in the rec league play
May you sink ern from centre, but don't forget to
pay.
Though long gone and past is the season of the
duffer
We trust hooks and slices won't make any golfer
suffer.
For all you ball players who enjoy the game
May next year's trophy bear your own name.
For Glenn and Lauretta and their high school sports
May they be victorious in games of all sorts.
We may have missed some, but never you fret
We wish you all well and that's sure a bet.
But win, lose or draw won't you please let us know
So to all our readers your efforts we'll show,
And that's all for now, so we'd better just whoa
Because we've already slaughtered our good friend -
Poe,
But before we go, we've just this to say
May your Christmas and New Years be exceedingly
gay,

The Exeter Mohawks came
up with their 'worst showing of
the season, Tuesday, when they
were trounced 14-3 by the
Centralia Golden Hawks in Ex-
eter.
Playing *efore less than 60
fans, 'the Tribe never did get
untracked to get an offense
rolling, and their .defense was
non-existent at times as the
Golden Hawks continually bot-
tled them up in their own end.
Al Simpson and Bill Cherpeta

Centralia crew, blinking the

Kelly, Jim Sullivan anT Dei

each.
The locals jumped into a 3.1
lead in the first period and
increased it to 5-2 at the end
of the second as they out-
played the Wingham six. They
added a pair of quickies in the
first of the third and appeared
to have the game clinched,
when Wingham suddenly came
to life to knot the count with
five goals.
However, Larry Jones took a
face-off from his own end and
skated the length of the ice
and then fed a perfect pass to
Sinclair who slipped the disc
between the feet of Glen Skinn
in the Wingham nets.
Although the game was a
hard-hitting affair with several
stiff body checks thrown by
both teams, referees Frank
Boyle and Iry Ford only issued
seven penalties, five to the vi-
sitors,
In earlier games, the locals
have been whipped by Seaforth
and Goderich, but this was the
first game they'hact their full
lineup.
