The name of the denomina-
tion to which the Bethel Re-
formed Church belongs is The
Reformed. Church in America.
This church came to America
in 1628, and has had a con-
tinuous existence there, It
came from the Netherlands,
where it was planted as a re-
sult of the religious reforma-
tion in Europe 3n the sixteenth
century.
Approximately 12 years ago,
when immigrants in large
numbers began to come to
Canada from the Netherlanda,
Reformed churches began to be
organized in. Ontario, under
the direction, and with the help
of, the Reformed Church in
America, in the States, after
it was found that language
difficulties made it impossible
for existing denominations in
Canada to minister to the
spiritual needs of these im-
migrants.
l'he Exeter group began
meeting in the basement of the
Jam'e's St. United Church, under
the' -direction of Neil Eelman,
a fieldman and lay minister.
aostly thereafter they moved
Ito the Legion Hall on William
St., where they were organized
into a congregation in. July,.
`1952. Rev. Carl Schroeder
Iserved the congregation from
1953-1956.
The Reformed Church stands
for the basic doctrines of his-
toric protestantism. These in-
' elude the deity of Christ, His
atoning death, His sure return,
jthe infallibility of the Scrip-
; tures, and the necessity of the
new birth. It is a conservative
evangelical denomination.
The Bethel Church consists
of 35 families, 65 members and
100 baptized members. They
have been meeting for the past
several years, in the afternoon,
in the Main Street United
Church.
Their proposed new schedule
iof services, beginning Sunday,
Nov, 26, will be as follows;
Morning service at ten o'clock,
in Dutch, with a brief English

reveals, "Actually, it's only, a
small part of our- fund-raising
campaign but it all helps. We're
in our second year of the pas
ture program and it seems to
be working out well."
The small congregation which
proudly saw its church-buil-1-
ing dreams fulfilled this week
has been working on the project
ever since it was organized
Mr. Van Farowe said one-
third of the cost of the new
building has been contributed
by the church's Board of North
American Missions, which has
also loaned the congregation
a substantial amount. The re-
mainder — over $10,000 — has
been raised by the members.
Distinctive design
Designed for economy in both
construction and maintenance,
the new church nevertheless
has an elegance of simplicity
which is distinetive.
The front of the structure is
set off with a glass window
18 -feet high and 14 -feet wide,
and a steeple which extends
18 feet above the roof.
The ,structure measures rough-
ly 38 -feet by 68 -feet, and its
laminated arches, which con-
tribute to the interior decor in
the auditorium, carry the build-
ing to a height of 40 feet,.
The cedar roof, made of
3"x6" planks, is stained on the
inside to form the steeply slop-
ing ceiling.
Walls •are made of light-
weight einder block, with a
pattern provided by the use of
both 4" and 8" depths.
The balcony at the west end
provides seating for an 'ad-
ditional 32 people and also
houses the church. organ. The
amplifier for the organ is lo-
cated at the east, behind the
pulpit.
Social hall in basement
In the basement, nearly com-
pleted, the building provides a
kitchen, three Sunday Schoo:
rooms, a social 'hall measuring
40 -feet by 26 -feet, plus a nurs-
ery and fireproof .furnace
room.
The pulpit, built into the east
end, features a lectern of ad-
justable' height.
Twenty spotlights flood the
auditorium from various loca-
