position in. the Lake Huron.
Zone track and field meet held

The novice Exeter group
managed 168 points; during the

short distance behind second
and third-place finishers Kin-
cardine and St. Marys with
totals of 189 and 182.

of Dashwood who copped the
'"A" girls category which was
open to girls 16 and up. The

total of 14 points during the

Kris finished second in the
60 and 100 ,yard dashes and
also in the high jump but came
through pith a first in the
running .broach jump where she
set a zone record, bettering.
the old mark by unore than

Kris' sister Mime, also com-
peting in the "A" < divi'slion,
picked 'up a second place finish
in the standing broad jump to
add another three 'points to
the Exeter total.
Two other youirg Exete.r per-
formers also set records at
the meet. Jill Harness and Joan
Campbell, who, both partici-
pated in the r'p" girls 10 and
under division, set zone marks
in the 50 and 75 yard clashes.
Jill was clocked in 9 sec-
onds flat for the 50 yard run
while Joan took a tenth of a
second off the old zone record
of 10:9 for the 75 yard fixture.
The two young Exeter girls
also excelled •in other classes,
Joan Campbell notched a see-
ond and a third in the running
broad and the high jump while
Jill Harness gained another
second for Exeter in the soft-
ball distance throw.
Janet Loader, also compet-
ing for Exeter in the "D" tate•
gory picked up a third for her
teamin the standing broad
jump. ":
The Exeter team posted two
more records .lxi the "D" boys
division as Jim Parker and
Merle Idle both copped firsts
for their team. Jim picked up
his first in the 75 -yard dash
First game
to Crediton
Crediton moved 'one step
closer to the liniment loop
finals Tuesday night when they
..eani•e up with a 4-1 victory
over last year's defending
champion Kinanien squad.
The victory gave Crediton a
1-0 edge Ingames in the best-
. of -three semi-final round be-
tween the two clubs to deter-
mine which teamwill go on
to the finals against the vic-
tor of the"Legion-Giffords semi-
finals.
Giffords ` and Legion played
to a 7-7 draw in. Exeter Mon-
day night in a game that will
have to be replayed in their
two -out -of -three semi-finals. •
Gard Slaght fired a two -hitter
at the Kinsmen nine, The Cred-
iton righthander hooked up
with Don "Dlinger" Bell of the
Kinsmen in a tight pitching
duel that. saw Slaght strike out
seven batters while Bell fan-
ned 11 but Crediton got to Bell
for a total of eight base hits
during the seven -inning game.
Slaght helped his own cause
at the plate by pounding out
three hilts, a triple, double,
and single in three times at.
bat. Roy Smith. cracked two
singles for Crediton while Russ
Beaver chipped its a two -bag-
ger,
Oal Wein and Ron Needham
were the only Kinsmen batters
to nick Sleight as they both
picked up one single.
Crediton scored all four of
their runs in four different in-
nings as both pitchers kept
a tight hold on the scoring,
The Crediton nine added one
run in the second inning, an-
other in the third and . two
▪ more in the fourth end fifth
'before Kinsmen could get un-
tracked and tally their lone
run in the top of the seventh,
Second game of the series
takes place on Thursday eve-
ning in Crediton when the home
team will have a chance to
wrap up the semi-final round
in two straight games end ad-
vance to the league finals.
