Last week Mr. Inert Culbert,
one of Lucan's painters and
decorators, was laying a new
;linoleum at the Lucan United
church parsonage. The old
(bnoleum had been padded with
11.5 -year-old copies of The Lon-
don Free Press.
To his surprise the :first
paper he picked up contained
the picture of his three broth-
ers who .had been among over
100 veterans who bad been pre -
rented with Pen and pencil
sets by the village of Granton
at a reception in honor of the
men and women of the corn-
munity who had served in the
war.
The three brothers, sons of
141r. and Mrs. Myron Culbert
of Lucan and the late Mrs. Cul-
bert, were Kenneth' Culbert,
forme Flight Sergeant in the
RCAF (now living at Granby,
Que), Ivan Culbert, who had
served six years and :four
months on overseas duty with
the RCR's (now living in Lon,
don) and Mel Culbert who died
!three years ago.

tended the funeral of Mr.
Alonzo Phillips Marshall, 72,
who died in the Sarnia General
Hospital on Monday, July 15,
Funeral services were held
at the Stephenson Funeral
Rome, Ailsa Craig with inter-
ment iii Carlisle cemetery.
Former school pals acted as
pallbearers.
He is survived by his wife,
the former Stella De Corte,
• one daughter (Eileen) Mrs.
.Nicholas T. Murphy of Wash-
ington, D.C., one sister and
two brothers.
Mr. Marshall was born in
Lobo township. He lived at
Wisetown, Sask and also in
London. At one time he owned
a lumber yard at, Bettleford,

Mr. Rex Hovey of Sarnia
(formerly of Luean) was in-
volved in an accident at the
bridge detour near Elginfield
on. No. 7 highway last Thurs-
day, A large van prevented
his seeing the ' detour, He es-
caped with scratches but his
car was badly damaged and
is being repaired at Lucan.

organized three weeks ago has
now an enrolment of over 1,300
members (plus the 24 who be-
came members on Monday).
Mrs. Weller's borne was the
21st home visited where gath-
erings were held inside and also
onthe lawns.

ing $12 worth of products which.

eligible to attend a free show
similar to the one Mrs. Weller
and Mrs. Doug Ewen attended.

financial success. Ways and
means of improving it next
year were discussed.
It was voted. to . continue
catering to the Lions Club in
September. The plans for the
catering to a wedding Septem-
ber 16 was voted to be left in
the hands of the executive.
