the fire siren and to see dense
smoke billowing skyward over
Lueaa's business block.
Once again Fred Revington,
of the Revington Meat Mar-
ket, was the victim. This time
it was a 4111411 storage bund-
ing at the rear of the Stras-
ser Restauraet. Though the
building was totally destroyed
the fire department saved the
restaurant and several other
old frame buildings in the yip'.

had to be discontinued owing
to inability to secure qualified
teachers, so parents are happy
to have the arena board take
over and give their children

The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Butler Jr.!
of Luean and the groom is the
son of Mrs, Myrtle Dixon and,
the late Mr. Dixon of Ailsa
Craig.

The body rested at the Mur-
dy. Funeral Home, Lucan, un-
til noon on Tuesday when it
was taken to the United Church
for a funeral service con-
ducted by the Rev. G. W. Sach,
Interment was in St, James
Cemetery, Clandeboye.
Pallbearers included Messrs,
Bola Hamilton, Ivan Hearn,
Wilbert Stanley, Ivan Stanley,
Kermit Thompson and Gordon
Eaton.
Mrs. Cook is survived by her
'husband the Rev. E. M. Cook
(still a patient in St. Joseph's
Hospital) two sons, Robert C.
Cook of Chicago and Arthur
W. Cook (Bud) of Lucan, one
daughter iMiss Edythe Cook of
Toronto, also two •brother s,
Ralph Knox of Sarnia and
Frank Knox of Los Angeles,
California.
Mrs. Cook was the former
Laeta Violet Knox, eldest child
'arid; only daughter of 'Mr. and
-111111. Robert Knox of Norwood.
She married the Rev. E. M.
Cook, August 11, 1920 and went
to live at Bancroft, North Has-
tings where there three eldest
children were born David (de-
ceased) Edythe and Robert.
Their other son Arthur (Bud)
was born in Belleville.
Eleven years ago they came
to Lunn where Mr. Cook
served six -years in the Lucan
and Clandeboye United Chur-
ches. When he retired five
years ago they bought a house
direotly across Main St. from
the church.
On August 11. 1960 they cele-
brated their 40th wedding an-
niversary.
Mrs. Cook's main sphere of
service to the church was in
music. For over 50 years she
either sang in the choir or was
a church organist,

of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Butler
Jr., of Lucan, was honored
with two miscellaneous show-
ers.
Mrs. Lloyd Mason and Mrs,
Ralph Rutnmell of Lucan were
co -hostesses for the first, which
was held at the home of the
former last Wednesday eve-
ning, July 5. During the eve-
ning, the bride -elect was the
winner of a contest and was
also presented with a recipe
box, with each of the 20 Lu -
can girls present contributing
their favorite recipes.
The second shower was held
at the general offite at Eaton's
last Thursday evening. July 6,
by Miss Butler's fellow em-
ployees there.

Biddulph farmer
John William Whelihan, 70,
a retired Biddulph farmer,
died suddenly on Saturday,
July 8 on the farm of Mr. Ron
Crozier while helping Mr.
Berrybill and , Mr. Mathers
bring in some hay.
He was the son. of Mr. and
Mrs. -Cornelius Whelihan and
was a life time Biddulph far-
mer until three years ago when
he retired and =Aced to Rich-
mond St., Lucan.
He is survived by his wife,
the former Ellen 'Mackey of
Lucan, foster children 'Charlie
and Ruth Whalen and their
children, Valerie Ann and
Johnnie; three sisters, Bridget
(Mrs. Dan Ryder), Mary (Mrs.
Lawrence McCarthy) and Miss
:Testa Whelihan and two bro-
thers Jerry .and Frank Wheli-
han, all of Biddulph Township.
The body rested in his home
until 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, July
11 when it was taken to St.
Patricks' Church, Biddulph, for
Requiem High Mass at 10 a.m.
with the Rev, Father Frank

was in St. Patrick's cemetery.

Notice is hereby given to all
persons in possession of 'land,
in accordance with the Weed
Control Act, 1960, Sec. 3, 13
and 19, that unless noxious
weeds growing on their lands
within the Village of Lucan,
are destroyed by date of July
22, 1961, and thropghout the
season, the MuniciVelity may
enter upon the said lands and
have the weeds destroyed,
charging the costs against the
land in taxes, as set out in the
Act.
