Activities
The meeting of the United
Church WMS was held. at Mrs,
George Paul's cottage at The
Highlands, near Grand Bend,
with 25 members present.
The meeting was in charge
of the president, Mrs. Paul,
with Mrs. Alex Young's group
responsible for the program
and refreshments. ,Mrs. Young
was assisted by Mrs, Sheridan
Revington in the devotional,
Mrs. Cecil Robb took an inter-
esting chapter in the study
book on Japan.
As they sat around the lawn,
Mrs. Young gave a few of the
highlights of her recent trip to
her son Jack's graduation in
Nova Scotia.
Refreshments were served
out of doors on the lawn. As
the group left Lucan early in
the afternoon, they were home
before the bad electric storm
in the evening,
Couples' Club
The meeting of the Couples'
Club took the form of a pot-
luck supper. The Rev, G. W.
Sach was in charge of the de-
votions assisted by Mr. Alden
Wacker and Mr, George Car-
penter.
Plans were made for a pic-
nic at Prospect Hill on July 9•
Mrs. Sach, who was leaving
the next day on a visit to Eng-
land, was presented with a
small gift.
The next meeting will not be
held until the fourth Wednes-
day in September.
Anglican Church
FIowers on the altar were in
memory of Mrs. Pearl Cob-
leigh, and baskets in the
church in memory of Mr, John
Clatworthy.
In the absence of organist
Mr. Ken Clarke, Mrs. Lan-
caster presided at the organ.
Confirmation classes have
been discontinued until Septem-
ber.
Business meeting
Following the 11 a.m. service
a meeting was held in the
parish hall to decide what to
do in regard to the numerous
repairs needed on the church.
The workmen, who have been
repairing the brick work for
the past week, found the chim-
ney lead to be rebuilt and the
eavetroughs and the tower
needing repairs,
Mr. Erwin Seott presided at
the meeting, and all felt in
spite of the heavy expense, it
was better to make the necesr
sery repairs now than to leave
them to becoine worse,
Successful supper
The Ladies Guild on Wednes-
day night held a successful
strawberry and liana supper in,
the church basement.

Mr. Welch was an employee
of the Ferranti Packard Co. of
St. Catharines for the past 17
years.
He has had 10 years' exper-
ience ,in minor hockey and
baseball sponsored by the St.
Catharines Legion.
He also assisted in arena
playground activities.
Though married with two
children Dale, 3, and Linda,
11, he -himself is still active
in baseball, hockey, lacrosse
and golf.

The local tennis court is
ready for play and we hope
every one interested will come
and use the courts, There will
be racquets for rent et the
arena for those that are just
beginning to play.
Within the next few days we
are planning to have a few
tennis experts here 0, show
how the game is played and to
answer any questions,
Baseball activities got under
way on Friday morning for the
pee wee league with the rest
of the teams getting wider way
on Monday. Two girls' softball
teams have been formed and
they will also start next week.
Roller skating will begin at
the arena on Monday evening,
July 5, from 8 to 10 p.m. Ad-
mission will be 350 for adults
and 15¢ for children, including
skates which will be available
at the arena. There will be an
instructor on hand to assist
the beginners.
Dancing Saturday night at
the arena, music provided by
the Canadian Playboys.
Lucan students successful
Among the successful pupils
who attended. the London Tea-
chers' College this year ap-
pears the names of Jane Stea-
cy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Jack Steacy (who was baking
the one year course) and Mar-
line Revington, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Sheridan Reving-
ton. (who was taking the two
year course and has now com-
pleted her first year).
Scouts enjoy weekend
Scoutsmaster, E a r 1 Carling
and 14 Liman Scouts spent the
Father Day weekend again at
Fish Creek, near Prospect Hill.
Tracking, signalling end a
number of camp projects were
the highlights of the expedition,
which enabled Paul Steacy and.
Jim McIntosh to receive their
second class badge.
On Saturday morning, the
scouts were surprised to find
they had • an extra tent. Late
Friday night the Scoutmaster,
Troop Leader and two patrol
leaders from the 8th London
Troup, arrived, set up their
tent, and remained over until
Saturday noon.
