Wright (Pill Digit double: :n. :Wright (571) WIN AT SARNIA—Five members of the junior girls' league in Exeter travelled 1 to Sarnia, Saturday, and returned home with the trophy for their first place finish i in the western counties' junior tournament. The squad was entered in a 17 -team division and came up with a 2,750 total for their three games to edge a Windsor entry. Two of the locals were also runners-up. in the individual competition. Mem- bers of the team are: back row, left to right, Marlene Harness, Ruth Durand, coach of the squad, Darlene Snell and Helen Campbell. Kneeling are Sue Ann Linden - field and Phyllis Madge. —T -A photoI Giris cop Sarnia trophy, boys seventh in tourney Five Exeter girls scored a smashing victory in Sarnia,' Saturday, to win the junior girls' division in the Western Counties' Junior Bowling Tour- nament. • Competing in a 17 -team clan fit„sitication, the locals scored )with a 2,750 pintail in their three games, to edge •the Gold- en Mile Girls from Windsor. Two of the members of the Exeter five were also runners- up in individual .performances. Sue Ann Liindenfield's 263 sin- gle was just 35 pins short of the mark set by Mary Hoad, of Sarnia. Darlene Snell rolled a nifty 661 triple to stand second be- hind Demra Walker's 685, The other members of the championship team are Mar- lene Harness. Helen Campbell and Phyllis Madge, ( ttlk Boys seventh The Exeter &try in the! junior boys' division stood' seventh in the 22 -team group. They rolled 2,449, while the `I winners from Petrolia picked up 2,825 in their three games. The local lads lost several pins on fouls. It was the first time most of them had bowled on lanes with automatic foul lines and it took them quite a while to get used to them. In the first game,, Don Wolfe lost 30 pins, but still carne up with a 216 total. Don Wright was the top man for the locals, posting a 582 triple and a 225 single. } Other members of the Exe- fop P ter team were Gary Ford, Hank Gosar -and Dennis Hock - Windsor, Sarnia, Petrone, Dres- den, Chatham and Courtwright. It was the first time Exeter had an entry in the tourna- ment. The •hiih triple in the junior bays' grooup was a 659 tossed by Larry Bailey of the cham- pionship Petrolia squad, while Davie Rikley of Chatham came up with a 306 single. The Hi -Five ended in third spot with 120 points, 11 less than the leaders. The playoffs start this week andthe annual banquet will be held in Grand Bend on May 19. The St. Marys squad, who will have the advantage of ! their own lanes, are in third spot, 190 pins behind the Gode- rich six. The fourth entry from Grand Bend have a total of 7,583 pins, 1,059 behind the leaders. The Kippen Tigers, who topped the league during the season, are tied in the number two spot with the Pepsis. The Tigers had to settle for 2-2 split with the Pepsis in a head- o., battle for the runner-up spot.
