The two teams ended the season with identical records, but because South Huron jun- iors were not entered .in WOS- SA, Listowel represented the con crence, losing in the ina game to the champs from Kingsville. In the sudden -death contest in Mitchell, Thursday, the Lis- towel glued had the advantage of recent practises, while the locals had been idle for three weeks. South Huron were fur- ther hampered when Bonnie Hogarth, one of the mainstays at the forward position, and Joan Dettmer, a s t n do u t guard, missed the game, Listowel started early in their auest far the champion- ship, taking a five -point lead in the first ouarter and in- creasing it to eight at the half, South Huron outscored Lis- towel 13-11 in the third quarter but the winners rallied for a five•point margin in the last period, Sharon Spittal and Mary Gil - bank were the sparkplugs for the new Perthex charnps, scor- ing 16 and 14 points respec- ' tively. Xandra Busehe paced the 'South Huron six with 12 points and Ausma Gulens hooped ' • e and Diane McKenzie rounded out tile SH scoring with thrand two respectively. South Huron missed on 10 of their 13 free throws and Listowel sank only two of the eight chances they bad from the foul line, South Huron lineup—Xandra Busehe, 12; Ausma Gulens, 8; Marjorie MacPhee, 3; Diane McKenzie, 2; Bonnie Turvey, Carol Allen, Carolynne Sim• mons, Sharon Skidmore, Elaine Miller, Shirley Genttner, Paul- ine Aquiline, Ruthanne Salmon, Elizabeth Gosar. RECREATION Bantams battle in final; Jets win p'wee opener By ALVIN WILLERT in Pee Wee playoffs, Satur- day morning, the Jets defeated the Black Hawks 4-3 in the first game of the semi-final series 01 two games goals to count. The final genie of this series will be played Wednesday night, 6-7. In Wee Wee hockey the Red Devils defeated the Blue Devila 9-3. In the second game the Hawks win —Continued from page 6 In the final minute. Bill Heywood and Dave Clithero were assessed five-minute ma- jors for fighting. Ernie Little, goalie for the Exeter Mohawks, and Frank McCue. a former Tribe mem- ber, handled the refereeing chores. The second game of the best - of -three series will be played in Stra(hroy, Friday, and thn third game, if necessary, will be back in Exeter, Monday. The professor was lecturing his class. "I predict the end of the world in fifty million Declines credit years!" "How many?" came a steel- ed voice 'from the rear. "Fifty minion years." I No need for anxiety "I thought, you said fifteen "Oh," said the relieved voice, million." Kingsville principal To the editor, I note with interest, nay, con- sternation, the accounts writ- ten by your sports editor con-' I cerning the WOSSA. basketball results. He implies that I am . the coach, manager and over-, seer of the Kingsville HS bas- ketball teams,This is not so, Mrs. Dunkley has been on this staff for four years and needs no assistance from me Comets 15, Sanders 192) 7 in training the girls. Mr. Aik- man, is a BPHE graduate of 1 Queens and Mr, Hutton (.Joy 1 Greenwood's husband) trained the boys, and are very capable men. The only assistance I gave them was to take ..thos.e. low in academics off their teams. Now secondly, Bee -Bee im- plies that SH and other high schools in the area should, watch out for St. Marys, and, I by secondary implication, that KDHS is an athletic school. Last year we at KDHS had 37 pupils in grade 13 out of a total of 343 or almost 11% of our enrolment. P'assing per- centage was 92.6 in depart- mental papers. Of course, I have to confess that our athletes have won the county track and field cham- pionship five years in a row and WOSSA four years in a row, losing to Tilbury last Oc- tober by four points. This year all four basketball teams won every scheduled game to the. finals when the senior boys lost by two points to St. Anne's. Our junior boys lost to Strat- ford at WOSSA (Stratford has probably 1200 students, we 1 have 346).
