D, Mc- Curdy School nearly turned it- self inside -out to greet its ver- sion of the Grey Cup classic on Friday, December llth. For about two weeks, everyone had been existing on the tangy spice of Grey Cup excitement. Started four years ago by the schdol's vice-principal, Mr. John McCarroll, it has grown into one of the school's major events. Pa- The story in • Sunshine. By MRS. Practices, tryouts, and final games all led up to the big day. Guided mostly by our school mu- sic teacher, Mr. Shippey, the drum majorettes carie up to give an excellent display of their work. Out of four teams, two, the Tiger Cats and the Blue Bombers, survived the gauntlet to be the final contestants for the championship honours. Finally, after what seemed to be infinite waiting, Friday fin- ally rolled around. After a truly thrilling game the Blue Bomb- ers came out on top as the win- ner in the best of three series. As each touchdown was worth six points, the game ended 42-24 in favour of the Blue Bambers. The scorers for the Blue Bomb- ers included Bob Grayer and Pe- ter McLeod with two touchdowns apiece and John Loch, Ken An- derson and Fred Elwgren with one apiece. For the Tiger Cats, Ron Ellis registered two touch- downs and Glen Latour and Stu- art Symes scored one apiece. AIL in all, as mentioned before, it was a never-to-be-forgotton day. Good sportsmanship was displayed all around on the field. Incidentally, due to poor weather and lack of seating fa- cilities, the "field" was the school auditorium which was suitably decorated for the occa- sion. Contests at half-time in- cluded the best float won by Va- lerie Herbert and Karen Walker for originality in construction, and a hula -hoop contest won by Sharon Carpenter. The lucky draw was won by Sandra Brown. From the view- point of a spectator (which I was) it was a spectacular day, equalled by none. 111111111,11111111111111111111111111111111111111111 hill 1 hlll 111111111111111 llllll1, 111111 llll hill 1 llllllllll Milli 111111111111111,, G.
