with preliminaries on Sept. 5 at Mitchell, will be getting a boost from the bumper
signs prepared for the ,roadeo committee. Bruce McKay, left, RR 2 Stratford, puts
the first signon his own bumper, helped by Ralph White, Perth county agricultural
representative, while Mrs. H. Ritchie, Perth county home economist, shows that there
are lots of signs left for lots of bumpers. The finals of the roadeo will be held at
the Stratford Fall Fair.

Trip to Florida
follows nuptials
A wedding trip to Florida fol-
lowed the marriage of Miss
Alice Margaret Carter and Floyd
Milton 13lanehar4 on Saturday,
August 22 at 2 o'clock in Main
Street United Churchwhich was
decorated with pink and white
gladioli,, ferns .and lighted can-
delabra.
The bride is the daughter of
Mrs, Entatic Carter, Exeter,
and Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Blan-
chard, Exeter.; are the parents
of the groom.
Rev. R. S. Hiltz was the Of-
ficiating clergyman and Mrs,
Amiel. Willard. organist of the
church, played the wedding
music and .accompanied the solo-
ist, Mrs. Roy Dykeman, who
sang "The Wedding Prayer" and
"0 Perfect Love."
Given In .marriage by her bro-
ther, James Carter, the bride
wore a full-length gown of
French Chantilly satin with an
overskirt of tulle topped by
Frenchpeau-de-soie lace, The
scalloped bodice was appliqued
with lace.

as maid of honor, Miss Carole
Hogarth, Exeter, and Mrs. Don-
ald Smart, London, as brides-
maids and Lynda Blanchard as
junior bridesmaid were gowned

Mrs. Wilbert Batten, formerly
of Zion and Winchelsea, died
suddenly in Sarnia on Wednes-
day, August 26, She suffered a
stroke while walking on the
beach near the home of a
nephew, Harold. Denham, with
whom Mr. and. Mrs. Batten had
made their home recently.
Mrs. Batten was the former
Lulu Godbolt, daughter of the
late Mr, and Mrs. Charles God -
bolt Sr„ of Usborne. After her
marriage she andher husband
farmed. near. Zion where Mrs.
Batten was an active member of
Zion church andwas pianist for
several years. They retired to
Winchelsea and lately have been
living with their nephew in
Sarnia,
Surviving are her husband and
one granddaughter, Janice Arm-
strong, near Hensaf. An only
daughter, Mrs. Harry Armstrong,
diedtwo years ago.
Funeral services will be held
at the Hopper -Hockey funeral.

Friday. Peter has been posted
to Egypt for a year and leaves
