entertains band
The Baby Band of ,James St.
WMS and their mothers were
entertained by the Afternoon
Auxiliary on Thursday afternoon.
Over 150 were in attendance.
Mrs. Douglas Insley, superin-
tendent of the. Baby Band intro-
duced the program which in-
cluded a vocal solo by Susan
Goman, a piano solo by Karen
Jermyn and a promotion service
when 19 boys and girls, having
reached the age of six years,
passed through the white gates
and were welcomed by the as-
sistant superintendent of Mis-
kon Band, Mrs. Arnold Linden -
field.
Those promoted were Paul
Armstrong, Bonnie Biro, Brenda
Brintnell, Douglas Case, John
Darling. Susan Davey, Janette
Ecker, Dennis Ferguson, James
Fulcher, Allen Parsons, Lynn
Richard, Donald Jones, Susan
McDonald, Thomas Patterson,
Michael Southcott, Gail Sweet,
Helen Tilley and Steven Wuerth.
Mrs. C. E. Zurbrigg presided
and extended a welcome. She
was assisted in the devotional by
Mrs. Orville Cann. Mrs, Eric
Carseadden welcomed the guests
at The door and Mrs. Robert Mc-
Donald presided at the piano.

Into the sisterhood of Guides at
the meeting Thursday evening..

Dettmer. Kathy Page received
her stalkers' badge and Linda

elects new
Mrs. A. Y, Dodd was elected
president of the Women's Auxili-
ary of Huron Park, RCAF Sta-
tion Centralia, during the ban-
quet Thursday night which con-
cluded the group's activities for
the summer.
Vice-presidents are Mrs. R. M.
Harvey and Mrs. Peter Giles.
Recording secretary is Mrs. Al
Birkett; corresponding secre-
tary, Mrs. Wilfred Graystone;
treasurer, Mrs. Leo Page.
Conveners include Mrs. John
D. Thomas, general sports; Mrs.
Douglas Calberry, bowling; Mrs.
W. D. EIli, hospital and visit-
ing; Mrs, Roy Swanson. luech;
Mrs. R. S. Slade, welfare; Mrs.
A. J. McCoy, layette; Mrs. M.
C. Montgomery, entertainment.

About 150 attended,
The auxiliary functions to pro-
mote the social life on the sta-
tion as well as to perform wel-
fare work. During the past year
it has donated $120 to the South
Huron Hospital, $25 to CARE,
$25 to retarded children and $100
to the padres' fund for welfare
work.
Its money - raising activities
have included a rummage sale,
doll raffle, and fashion show,
Saintsbury ladies' tea
attracts large crowd
On Wednesday afternoon the
ladies of the WA and Guild of
St. Patrick's church held a blos-
som tea and bazaar. About 100
ladies from the surrounding
churches attended.
Mrs. Bren De Vries, Exeter,
gave an interesting and amusing
account of her family life since
coming to Canada. She was in-
troduced by Rev. Peter Dymond
and presented with a gift from
the ladies of St. Patrick's,

by Miss Sharon Davis and the
Guild president Mrs. Hugh Davis.

A treasure hunt on the beach
was a feature of the June meet-
ing of the Woman's Federation
of James Street United Church
held at the summer home of
Mrs. Carfrey Cann, Southcott
Pines, Grand Beed. Mrs. Glen
Mickle won the treasure,
The meeting was preceded by
a pot luck supper. Mrs. Kenneth
Ottewell played the accordion
accompaniment for a sing -song,
In a question and answer peri-
od each member offered sugges-
tions which, in her opinion,
would improve the organization,
Mrs. Robert Southcott was the
winner of a baby picture contest.
President Mrs. Harry Cole
conducted the business period.
It was decided to commence the
fall activities with a pot luck

hand for easy-going meals.
Whether you go to a cottage
as soon as the children are nut
of school or ivhether you stay

Ever since man has discovered
fire. cooking outdoors has been
fascinating to him. At first he
threw whole pieces of meat into
the fire to -char. Then he in-
vented a crude spit with which
to hang the meat over hot coals.
Today there are many ways to
cook outdoors. They range from
a simple bonfire at the lake to
the most deluxe outdoor fire.

Meat for barbecuing should be
at room temperature, especially
thick. steaks and roasts. Remove
from refrigerator 1 to 2 hours

When steak is done cut in

slices of boneless ham cut 1.1
inch thick. Brush slices with
pineapple glaze. Place on grill
4 to 5 inches above hot coals
for 5 minutes. Turn, brush again
with glaze and grill another 5
minutes.
Pineapple Glaze
1 cup canned crushed pine-
applo
1 cup, brown sugar -.
1 IN. prepared mustard
1 tp. dry mustard
2 tbl, lemon juice
Combine all ingredients and

as you'll ever sign, seal and store

Try this Pineapple end Straw-
berry Jam—you can he sure of
its perfect set, sure it will be a
family favourite, too.
PINFAPPLIE AND STRAWDF,DRY
JAM
4 cups prepared fruit (1 ripe
pineapple and about 1 qt.
ripe strawberries)
7 cups (3 lbs.) sugar
31 bottle Certo fruit pectin
First, prepare the fruit, Pare 1
medium-sized fully ripe pine-
apple. Grind or chop very fine.
(Or use .2 cups canned crushed
pineapple), Crush thoroughly
about 1 quart fully ripe straw-
berries. Combine fruits. ME:mauve
4 cups into a very large saucep4n,
Then make the jam. Add sugar
to fruit in saucepan, mix Well.
Place over high heat, bring to a
full Ailing boil. Boil hard 1
minute, stirring constantly. Re-
move from heat, stir in Certo
at once. Skim off foam with
metal spoon. Stir and skim by
turns for 5 minutes to cool slight-
ly, and to prevent floating fruit.
Ladle quickly into glasses. Cover
at once with inch hot paraffin.
Makes about 10 medium glasses.
