talks to groups
The Woman's Auxiliary of St.
Paul's Anglican church enter-
tained on Friday evening the
WAIS. and Evening Auxiliary ot
the United Church, the WMS and
Arnold Circle of Carmel Presby-
terian Church.
,Guest speaker for the occasion
was Mrs. Bren deVries, Exeter,
who chose for her theme "Palace
and Freedom" in which she viv-
idly described highlights of the
last great war as ,it affected the
people of Holland. She closed
with the admonition to remem-
ber "Freedom is our most prec-
ious possession." She was intro-
duced by Mrs. W. O. Goodwin
Who presided for the meeting.
Miss Jean Henderson sang a
solo accompanied by Mrs. R. H.
Middleton. Mrs, T. Lavender gave
a humorous reading. Mrs. Mid-
dleton assisted Mrs. Goodwin
with the worship service.
It was announced that a smor-
gasbord supper would be held
by St. Paul's WA the first Satur•
day in October.
Courtesy remarks were ex-
tended by Mrs. E. Rowe and
Mrs. Ken Elder for the United
church and Mrs. S. Dougall and
Mrs. Ed Fink for the Presby-
terian group.

Mrs. Joe McLellan and daugh-
ter, Lois, left last Wednesday to
spend a months' vacation with
relatives in Victoria, B.C. and
will attend the celebration of the
50th wedding anniversary of
Mrs. McLellan's sister and broth-

during a recent election. Through
an unintentional error last week,
the picture of Robert Reaburn,
principal of Hensall public school
and incoming third vice-presi-
dent of the club, appeared above
the c a p ti o n indicating Ross
Jinks. The editor regrets the
mistake.

An exchange of flower seeds
and plants was a feature of the
May meeting of Kippen East
Women's Institute held at the
home of Mrs. James Drummond
last Wednesday with Mrs. Ken
McKay as co -hostess.
Mrs. Robert Gemmell gave a
paper on "Salt" and Mrs. James
McNaughton spoke on accidents
and their prevention. Mrs,
Drummond gave a reading.
A dutch auction convened by
Mrs. Wilmer Broadfoot, Mrs,
Mex McGregor and Mrs. Ross
Broadfoot with the latter as
auctioneer netted the group $10.1
Roll call was answered by telling

George E. Walker, Queen
street, was stricken with a heart
attack while at work on Mon-
day and rushed by Bonthron
ambulance to St. Joseph's Hos-
pital, London.
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Passmore
and daughter Mary, of Delhi,
spent the weekend with the for-
mer's father, Mr. John Pass-
more.
Charles Dalrymple, 9, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Dal-
rymple, RR 2, Kippen, and stu-
dent at SS 1, Tuckersmith, un-
derwent an emergency appen-
dectomy at St. Joseph's Hospi-
tal, Saturday night, and at date
of writing is doing as well as can
be expected.
Mrs. A. W. E. Hemphill, of
London, was a weekend guest
of Mrs. L. Simpson.
Mr, John Armstrong of Zurich
who has been a patient at Scott
Memorial Hospital, Seaforth, re-
cuperating from a stroke was re-
moved from the hospital by Bon-
thron ambulance and admitted
to the Queensway Nursing home,
Heesall, on Thursday.

dies in Calgary
The death of Mrs. Donald
MacLeod, of Calgary, the for-
mer Isabella Adelaide Bell, of
Hensall, occurred at Calgary, in
her 80th year.
She was born and raised on
the Bell homestead, south of the
village. and was the last and
youngest of a family of 11 chil-
dren of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Bell. She had resided in
Calgary for about 50 years.
Mrs. MacLeod made several
trips east to visit relatives and
was here two years ago attend-
ing the funeral of her brother,
the late William Bell.
Her husband died several
years ago. Surviving are one
son, Donald, and two grandchil-
dren, in Calgary.
Funeral services were held in
Calgary.
Funeral of Roy Sell
Public funeral services for the
late Roy James Bell were held
from the Bonthron funeral chapel
last Wednesday, May 20. Rev. S.
Kerr of Exeter conducted the
funeral assisted by Rev, George
Vais, minister of Carmel Pres-
byterian Chw.ch, Hensall, who
paid fitting tribute to the life of
the deceased. •
Bearers were Glenn Bell, Hen -
sail; Jack Bell. Chatham; Ron
Bell, Windsor; Harold Bell, Lon-
don; W. J. F. Bell, Kippen, and
Neil Campbell, Exeter. inter-
ment was in Exeter cemetery,
The casket and grave were bank-
ed with many floral tributes.
