New heating standard
protects home owner
It's difficult to count liow many
Canadians have had Double Seal
Heating installed in their homes,
but there's at least one case
who never heard of it.
It was an elderly lady who.
was persuaded by a fast -talking
operator to buy a new heating
unit.
She did so, and paid cash in
advance, after signing a con-
tract.
Some days later, after the
man had been, carried much
material into the basement, and
then left -the lady went down-
stai_, to see how far he had
gone with his work.
A pile or parts for a furnace,
duct work, controls, blower mo-
tor etc., met her astonished
eyes.
Later, a saddened la w y e r
shook his head after reading the -
contract and told her that she had
no claim. The agreement was to
provide a new heating unit -but
there was nothing in the con-
tract about installing it!
Double Seal. Heating, approved
by Central Mortgage and Hous-
ing Corporation, puts the re-
sponsibility for a proper job
where .it belongs - on the shoul-
ders of the equipment manu-
facturer, and the installing con-
tractor.
Eachhas his own portion of
a special, adhesive seal, and
the two parts may only be ap-
plied as a complete entity
when the unit has been installed,
checked, and an •affidavit sent
to the National Warm Air Heat-
ing Association in Toronto cer-
tifying that the work meets the
association's standards. .
Thus, the buyer is assured of
good equipment, good workman-
ship, and satisfactory installa-
tion procedures.
