Tailored to match
Mr. and Mrs. Philip Johns, RR 3 Exeter, model matching
suits of all -wool westloom worsted in a starlit weave
fashioned by Tip Top Tailors and Walper's Men's Wear.
Marjory's four -button jacket has rounded notch lapels
with slanting jetted pockets. Her skirt features four knife
pleats front and back for slimness and ease in walking.
The coat Phil is wearing is cut in three -button
single-
breastecl trim lounge style, wider in the shoulder, larger
through the back blades and with larger arm holes for
complete comfort. Norm Walper says the continental look
with square shoulder effect is very popular in young
man's 'styles this year. —Jack Doerr
Exciting fashions too
for the younger folks
By MRS, DEL MACMILLAN
MacMillan's
Little girls have their normal
waistlines back this spring! The
high-rise look, important in
adult styles, is more a matter
of trim than fit for children.
Popular young spring dresses
have bouffant skirts, big. collars
And all manner of cummerbunds
and wide sashes.
There are also many two-part
dresses. These include pleated,
skirt dresses- with over -blouses
or cardigans, short waisted
dresses with short jackets, jump-
er and blouse combinations and
dress and coat or smock en-
sembles.
For very little girls, there are
empire fashions with skirts
pleated, flared or gathered
smock -style from a high yoke.
However, most high-rise looks
are built from a natural waist-
line, with raised -waistline mark-
ings on princess dresses, short
jackets and false boleros, string
laces nipping in the midriff and
bows and bands placed at mid -
bodice. •
Favored fabrics include wash-
and-wear prints, taffetas, or-
gandies and silky cottons for
dressy wear, cotton knits and
linen -look rayons. Pastels are
deep, and white skirts underline
navy, red or bold print jackets.
Coming back strong for the
girls' spring ate fitted coats.
High belts and pockets or bows
at mid bodice mark many, while
others are gathered, pleated or
draped from a raised waistline.
As an alternate to the fitted
coat, there are many versions of
the chesterfield and classic reef-
er.
Little girls can choose their
coats in a wide range of tex-
tured fabrics and bright colors.
Looped wools and mohairs ap-
pear in such hues as vivid
orange or aqua.
Navy, red and gray worsteds
and flannels, bold tweeds and
plaids and water•repellent cot-
tons are all popular.
Newest looking of all are white
coats. •
Color co-ordination is especial-
ly important in girls' sportswear.
The red, white and blue f`Ameri-
man" look is favored, along with
sun colors, deep pinks and
aquas.
Although color and textured
fabrics — such as twills and
sheens and spring corduroys—
take precedence over silhou•
ettes when it comes to young
sportswear fashions news, there
are new style approaches, too.
Poncho $ and bloused tops, for
instance, team up with pants or
skirts, creating a fresh look and
vying with overblouses and tuck,
ins for popularity. Just -below-
the-knee slim pants and no -bag
knickers join Jamaica and Ber-
muda shorts in a bid for spring
atl.ention.
