EXETER _SENIOR "E" NEXT WINTER?
Exeter Mohavks could be playing Senior "B"
hockey again next winter! When we saw something
leimilar to our first statement in the London Free
Press a. Couple of weeks back, we pinned it clown as
the laugh of the week. The only way possible for any
town such as Exeter to journey back Into Senior "W'
hockey is for the whole league in which they are
playing to turn with thein. To our .amazement, this
is exactly what the teams in the loop are seriously
considering.
Don Budda, manager of the Ilderton Wildcats,
was the actual mentor who dreamed up the situation
and presented it to the WOAA board at a meeting
last Sunday in Clinton. Alf Lockridge, WOAA busi-
ness manager, beamed at the idea and will hold a
meeting of the clubs in the near future to see what
they intend doing. If this circuit should decide to
go Senior "B". it has to declare itself to the O.H.A.
by May 1. Senior "R" hockey for the WOAA would
be something new for the organization. To our know-
ledge, the highest class of hockey it has supported
has been Int. "A" and lower. At first we thought the
senior league would be out of the question but if the
clubs in our present league all went higher, it would
undoubtedly simplify the situation.
We understand that Mitchell, Clinton, Ilder-
ton and Exeter are definitely interested in the new
setup and if two more teams, say from St. Marys,
Lucan or Goderich, would enter. it would certainly
make a ,comfortable setup. In Senior "B", the teams
would be. allowed to bring in four more 'players to
up their import total to eight. This would undoubted-
ly strengthen the class of hockey presently being
played. Buddo's idea is to have the whole league on
the share -the -wealth plan and he feels if this idea
is honestly kept by all clubs, huge financial sums
from supporters wouldn't be needed. It certainly
sounds concrete to us but the next problem is where
the teams can dig up enough players,
Dick Pincombe of the Strathroy Rockets, who
must have a money -making machine going for him,
says that Exeter and Ilderton can't afford such a high
class of hockey. Looking at the way Strathroy is pay-
ing their players with such enormous chunks of cash,
we'd say it was impossible too. However, it would
certainly Make the work -horse artists sit up and take
notice in the present Senior "B" setup if this league
did get under way with the share -the -wealth plan
throughout the entire loop. We'd like to see it done.
WHO'S PAYROLL IS BIG JIM ON?
Jimmy MacDonald, one time regular forward
and now sub goaltender of the Exeter Moha‘vks,
turned up in a new role Friday night in Exeter
'as he donned the pads for the visiting Lucan Irish
hockey club when "Jake" Barnes, regular netminder,
failed tp appear. Jimmy, who has wanted to get into
a game for some time, was taken completely by sur-
prise when approached for the Irish netminding
ee chore. Without hesitation
he slipped into all the
goaltending paraphern.a.
ha and stepped onto the
Exeter ice facing his one
tirne protectors. The first
eee•
ee, real good scoring chance
for Exeter carne when
e .7' "Heidie" broke in on
'es him and blasted one a
good six feet wide of the
net. "I wasn't really
scered when I saw him
corning," Jim told us,
"because he usua 11 y
shoots wide in practise
so I stood and listened
for the crack on the
backboards!"
We recalled another
occasion in the second
period when "Obie"
broke right in on top of him for three straight shots
and didn't score. Mac's reaction to the question came
out in this manner. "Obie really threw a good deke
rny way and it I'd have been. like most goalies, I
would have fallen for it. I didn't because I was too
scared to move so he shot right at me twice and sent
the third one wide of the net. I never worried about
the goal posts because they never seem to go in for
us (Exeter) anyway. I really enjoyed that game. Had
trouble finding the Lucan defence in front of me a
few times but they always turned up to help me take
the puck out of the net."
Is Jim going to take any chiropractic treat-
ment for his back after taking 19 goals out of the
net? Not on your life! And he doesn't have to go
South like Al Rundle and Bill Pincombe to get his
sun tan. He's cleaning up in the fastest, cheapest
and healthiest way possible, and it does look good
from his speculative standpoint. He draws an income
from the Irish and Mohawks and gets his sunburn
free of charge with the red light going on behind
him so cften. How about that!
Seriosuly though, Jim should be commended an
the way he handled himself it the Lucan net, De-
spite the fact 19 goals got by him, he stopped more
Tubber than they produce at Dominion Rubber in a
clay. Perhaps one of these times, he'll show up in the
Tight uniform and play for the right team to really
baffle the fans.
JUNIOR BOWLING LEAGUE POR EXETER?
Exeter Bowling Lanes are off on another ad-
venture in an effort to help bowling development in
the area. This Saturday morning they hope to get a
Junior Bowling League formed for boys and girls
ranging from 9.16 years of age. Practically every city
in the country is high on junior development and to
ns, it sounds like •a concrete idea to get the young-
sters in this area enthused and create better bowlers
for the future.
This is going to be an all-out effort in an at-
tempt to get the new league started. In fact, the
Brat major step has already been taken. A carload of
dtithused bowlers made a special trip to the Star
Bawling Clink at Sheas Bowling Alleys in Toronto
Monday to receive •special instruction. Ruth Durand,
Dot Aintree, 011ie Essery and Gert Seat were the
friar ladies present and they intend to rule an in-
etruttlen school for the beginners in the Exeter
firtIrliOr League. Mabel McDewell, •one time Canadian
five -pin champion, showed the Exeter representatives
the finer points of the game. We'll probably get shot
/or mentioning this, but our own Dot Munroe beat

Irish 19-5
Exeter Mohawks went on a
scoring rampage Friday night as
they bombarded the cellar -dwell-
ing Lunn Irish 19-5 before 290
fans in Exeter.
Oddly enough, Lucan scored
the first goal of the. game at the
30 second mark but from there
on, it was an Exeter display.
When the firing had ceased,
the final statistics showed that
the tribe picked up 42 scoring
points to their credit. The line
Of "Red" Loader, Oberle
and 'Boom Gravette collected
22 of the points to move them
into contention for the loop's
scoring honours.
Bill Oberle and "Boom" came
out as top dogs in this one as
each picked up eight points.
"Red" Loader fired four goals
and figured in two others.
In actual goal scoring, Larry
Heideman and Loader were the
top snipers with four each, Bob
Baynham and Bill Oberle each
chipped in with a "hat -trick"
while "Boom" sank two. Single
tallies went to Jim Russell, Gib
Sabourin and Bob Gauthier.
Lucan's Don Fletcher fired two
of the Irish goals with Steve
Storey, Harry Wraith and Don
Lankin registering one each.
Mohawks took a 54 lead at the
end of the .first period, added
eight mare in the second and
then wrapped up twelfth victory
of the season as against two
losses with six third period
