Mrs. Lamont was named sec- ond prize winner in the Better Fionles and Gardens new cook book contest in which she. de- scribed why she liked her favorite recipe in the cook book.. Lamont gave reasons for liking was Scotch Shortbread. Here is the recipe: SCOTCH' SHORTBREAD '1 cup butter It cup sugar 21 cups sifted enriched• flour. Cream butter. Gradually add fine sugar or Mrs. Lamont uses brown sugar; cream till light and fluffy. Stir in flour and chill. On lightly floured surface roll to Lt to 1ti inch thickness. Cut with cookie cutter in .fancy shapes or strips and bake nn ungreased sheet in slow oven 300 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes or until delicately brown. This. makes two to three dozen short - breads. This is ;the fourth tittle in five years that Mrs. Lamont has composed a contest entry to win a major prize.
