John Elliott 519-5234323 I Blyth youth group wins volleyball tournament Five Church Related Youth Groups, fielding seven teams, held a volleyball tournament in the gymnasium of C.H.S.S. last Sun- day afternoon. Spectators and players numbered over 100. While the B.C. Lions and Hamilton Ti-Cats were battling it out for the Grey Cup in Montreal, youth teams from Dungannon, Londesboro, Be!grave, Ontario St. U.C., Clinton, and Blyth were playing their hearts out for the conveted Golden Boot. Last year when only three groups were involved, it was just a Golden Sneaker they played for. In this year's tournament, which was set up and scheduled by the Blyth group, Blyth's team Hedged out Londesboro in the final. The Golden Boot is now resting tem- porarily in Rev. Ken Bauman's office, Blyth. Following the games, over 90 young people came to Blyth United Church hall to enjoy a hot supper, for which Blyth's Youth Group was responsible. Emily Phillips, Carol Lawrie, Brenda McDonald and Grace Poore from the Parents' Support Group offered their ser- vices in the kitchen. From The Minister's Study BY REV. VIC JAMIESON, BRUSSELS-BELGRAVE Most of us do not allow the Lord, Jesus Christ, "the exact likeness of God's own being" (Hebrews 1:3), tobe in charge of our lives. We have not heard or become able to live what is written in Proverbs 3:5: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Never rely on what you think you know." At times we may wonder why so much is going wrong with so many people in so many parts of the world today. There may be times when we think about what will happen when we die. Most of us most of the time focus our lives on ourselves and the natural or man-made things of this world. We travel through life hoping mostly to keep our bodies living, to develop our minds as much as possible, through education, to maintain a good source of income or other signs of worldly wealth, and to associate with people who build up our self-importance. Some of us might even belong to a church which we might not have attended for a long time, attend occasionally or attend somewhat regularly on Sundays. A sharp observer will realize that little of what most of us say or do acknowledges Jesus Christ as the true and only source of life's needs. Our trust in the Lord begins when we yield to the Spirit of God speaking to us through His Word or messenger or directly. We have heard from God when His Spirit humbles us before Him in prayer. With deep regret for disobeying Him, we confess that we are sinners, people who have displeased God. In spite of what we may think of ourselves, Romans 3: 23 tells us: "Everyone has sinned and is far away from God's saving presence." The Bible, which is the only true guideline for life, tell us that our sins are inherited from our first grandparents, Adam and Eve. They involve those things we say or do unknowingly or knowingly to displease God. What we should have done or be doing also make up our sins? Who can make up to God for such possibilities of displeasing Him? NOBODY, NO WAY! In John 14:6 Jesus says: "I am the way and the truth and the life; no one goes to the Father except by me." We trust truly in the Lord when we are born again, that is, enabled by His Spirit to realize: "By the free gift of God's grace all are put right with Him through Christ Jesus, who sets them free. God offered Him, so that by His sacrificial death He should become the means by which people's sins are forgiven through faith in Him." (Romans 3: 24-26). Christ's Spirit in us then will show this message to those whom we meet. Good observers will see that we do no boast of a trust in the things of this world that build up ourselves in the eyes of others. As we yield all THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 27, 1985. PAGE 17. areas of our lives to Christ's control, they should see us re-focusing our time, talents and other resources on truly knowing Jesus Christ and making Him Known in our churches and elsewhere. We will reflect to everyone everywhere that we trust in the Lord Jesus Christ in such words as these: "Salvation is to be found through Him alone; in all the world there is noone else whom God had given who can save us." (Acts 4: 12). May all of us be led to trust in the LORD! c- Breaking free Looking for a way to break free — from old fences that bind you? From the things that hold you back?
