Politicians, wives thanked
Two long-serving politicians and their long-suffering wives were honoured at the Brussels, Morris and
Grey Community Centre Friday night when Isabel and Bill Elston and Tom and Harriett Miller were
guests of honour at an evening in appreciation of their contributions to the community.

by Bob Grasby who started on
council 18 years ago when Mr.
Elston became reeve.
Mr. Miller, in his remarks said
he had never missed a regular
meeting and only one special
meeting in all his years. He
thanked Mrs. Michie and the other
members of council for getting the
evening together.
Mr. Elston said he was happy to
see former reeve Bailie Parrott at
the meeting, saying that Mr.
Parrott was reeve of the township
when he started on council in 1952
and they were the only two
members of that council left. In
those days the council had its own
assessor and tax collector and local

Ethel news
BY MRS. MARGARET

Former Ethel residents George
and Arlein Hiemstra opened their
front door one night to find former
neighbours on the doorstep. They
had purchased a house in Milver-
ton . They were presented with a
lovely wall clock. Everyone was
given a tour of their new home.
Happy 50th Anniversary to Stan
and Helen Alexander from the
Ethel community. Several people
attended their party in Atwood.
Ten tables of euchre were played
on Monday evening. Hostess was
Barbara Grube of the Ethel W.I.
lated, with councillors being able
to do what they felt was right, not
being told by bureaucrats in
Toronto or elsewhere what they
could or couldn't do.
He said he had one regret on
leaving council now because he
had sat with the late Harvey
Johnston when he was warden and
would have liked the chance to
have sat with his daughter, Leona
Armstrong of Grey when she
becomes warden next year.
He was proudest, he said, of the
fact that in a township with two
rivers and many big bridges, all but
one bridge had been rebuilt in his
term and now the township had a
new municipal building. It felt
good, he said, to leave the
township in good shape for the new
council.
Winners were: high lady, Lois
Hait; high man, Ken Crawford;
most lone hands, Eva and Charlie
Harrison. Several table prizes
were also presented.
The Hall Board will sponsor the
next euchre on December 2.
The Ethel W.I. are having a
special Christmas euchre on Dec-
ember 16. Be sure to attend.
4H CLUB PROJECT
Another 4-H Club project is
coming to a close. If at all possible
attend the Achievement Night
November 27 at Brussels Com-
munity Centre. See what the future
Ethel homemakers have been up to
their elbows in.
