Gordis Tapp doesn't expect to
get home to London for Christ-
mas this year. "I have just too
many engagements to fill," lie
said. However Gord won't be
emceeing the big New Year's
Eve TV show this year, Alex
Barris will handle that job.
The Hi-Lites, who were fea-
tured locally a few weeks ago
will be appearing on the New
Year's Eve show and Jimmy
Hannan and .his vivacious wife
Pam Hyatt will also be featured.
Pam Hyatt is one of the most
talented newcomers to the To-
ronto showbiz scene and though
she has just had a few TV ap-
pearances she is being watched
by CBC which has big plans for
her.
Ruth Walker, the singer who
has been seen on 'Here's` Duffy'
a few times this season, is cur,
rently appearing with the Hi
Lites at the Prince George in
Toronto. Ruth is billed as the
Marilyn Monroe of song and
though she's blond with a torchy
singing style ,there is little pyhsi-

Ruth is petite, about the size
of Joyce Hahn and that is. really
tiny._ Before we went to lunch
recently Ruth was • showing me
a new dress which she had pur-
chased in New York for an up.
coming Montreal club date. It's
far from Monroe-ish with its
winged. collar, tailored bodice
and full skirt, but it certainly
is a beautiful creation in shim-
mering gold lame; size seven!
.Dave Broadfoot will be going
to Montreal for the revue we
mentioned shortly.
The current record hit "Teen -
Age Commandments" was re-
leased originally for disc jockeys
only, as a theme for closing
record hops. However the re-
sponse was so great that ABC -
Paramount released the disc for
general distribution and used
their top names, Paul Anka,
Johnny Nash and George Hamil-
ton, for the recording sessions.
Tommy Hunter is being fea-
tured this week on Arthur God-
frey's radio show out of New
York. -
Kay Hawtrey who played the
lead in 'Men Don't Make Passes'
has another feature role coming
up Sunday on GM Theatre. Jill
Foster Slade told me that one
reason Kay was so wonderful
in that play isthat Bernie Slade
wrote the part with Kay in mind
and used many of her own
character traits, The Shades and
Kay and her husband (John
Clarke of 'Junior Magazine') are
close friends.

Donny Johnson who was a

Every year a new crop of
Christmas songs hits the airy
waves but this year the song,
writers have outdone themselves.
Have you heard that sentimental,
C'hristmassy tune that contains
the line, "I don't care what your
name is :'atso, get those rein-
deer off my roof?" I tell you
it's touching, that't what it is.
A triple duet was sung by
Margaret Hyde, Ronnie Parsons,
Kathryn and. Kenneth Oke, Shir-
ley Reynolds, and Betty Knox.
Recitations were given by
Sadie Hovius, Ronnie Dougall,
Bobby Reynolds, Nancy Strang,
Jim Knox, Betty Knox, Josephine
Westlake, Kenneth Oke.
Musical numbers included:
Vocal eel°, Shirley Reynolds;
duets, Catherine and Allan Oke,
Dianne Olcc and Marion Parsons;
piano solos by Margaret Hyde
and Barbara Dougall.
The junior girls presented a
snowflake drill and the school
children sang a number of
choruses.
Carolyn Oke accompanied the
songs on the piano.

Is life Insurance
a good investment?
1t depends On what you want from an investment, roe
example — if you can afford to .take a risk in hopes of
spectacular returns. Life Insurance is not in the picture. But
if you must have an investment that will do these three
things — create an immediate estate for your family in
the event of your early death, provide a lifetime source of
retirement income, plus liquid fund?' for emergencies —
then We Insurance ranks second to none. A permanent
Life Insurance contract is the only investment that can
guarantee this combination. Even in periods of economic
stress, Life Insurance has a record of absolute dependability.
If you would like to learn more about investing in Life
Insurance including its tax saving features, call the Man
croft Manufacturers. You'11 fid be has an interesting
