This summer the spotlight in
Canada will shine for women, for
close behind Princess Margaret
will follow ,281 home economists
from. 28 countries as Different as
Argentina and Switzerland, Korea
and Nyasaland, who have been
attending the ninth world-wide
congress on Home Economics in
the University of Maryland, July
28 to August 2.
This is the first time such a
congress has been held in North
America and at the delegates' re-
quest they are spending four
days in Ontario and four in
Quebec.
Arriving in Canada via Niagara
Falls, the visitors will spend a
day there, and then on to
Guelph where they will be enter-
tained at Macdonald Institute of
the OAC. They will be banqueted
in Toronto by the Province of
Ontario with Premier Leslie
Frost as host, and will be greeted
by Prime Minister Diefenbaker
on the steps of the .Parliament
buildings and visit places of
interest in Ottawa.
They will he guests of the

Once again it is jam and jelly
time with the stores and gardens
brimming with fruits and vege-
tables. In a recent release from
the information branch of the
Ontario Department of Agricul-
ture, it is stated that jams and
•
THAT
J. M. S. '
jellies made from the first of the
crop jell more readily as the fruit
contains more pectin. So it would
appear to be time to get busy at
this task.
Have you tried combining fruits
in ;making jellies or jams? Miss
May Skinner, of town, .made jelly
from a combination of red cur-
rants and raspberries today and
she says both the color- and the
flavor is improved. Here is her
recipe. although she works more
by instinct than by rule.
Currant and Raspberry Jelly
(Miss May Slcinner),
2 quarts red currants
1 quart red raspberries
Wash and drain well. Pour
water over fruit until peeping
through and cook until tender.
Strain, Measure 9 cups sugar. To
8 eups juice, add Certo crystals.
Place over high heat until mix-
ture comes to a hard boil. At
once stir in sugar, Bring to
rolling boil and boil one minute.
Remove from heal, skim and
pour into glasses. Seal with
pa.raff'i.tn.
Wana new idea for sand-
wiches for the small fry on your
picnic? Here's one that is nutri-
tious and goad, too. For 1 cup of
filling combine: cup peanut
butter; h cup chopped seedless
raisins; D cup orange juice,
Spread thickly between slices of
whole wheat or white bread, and
the youngsters will call for more.
Keeps will in a tightly covered
jar in the refrigerator.
